INTRODUCTION

Understanding God’s plan:

Much has already been said about the fullness and completeness of the finished work of Jesus Christ. Every day I stand amazed at the awesome love and grace bestowed upon us by God our Father, but I believe one can only fully comprehend, appreciate and apply this fullness to your daily life once you fully understand the original plan, purpose and intention of God for mankind.

The Holy Spirit prompted me to delve into the Bible to obtain knowledge and understanding of God’s awesome work in us. I also asked God for wisdom to do the same as Luke did in “The Gospel according to Luke” i.e.: “to write an orderly, consecutive account of these things” so that everyone can apply it in his/her daily walk of life.

Life to me is not about going to church once or twice a week and to have fellowship with other believers and to hear a message from a preacher – that is only but a very small part of life. Life is far greater than that – life is about fulfilling the purpose that God had in mind for me, walking in His destiny and His dream and to realize the potential and maximise the talents and abilities that He gave us. All of course to His glory and honour.

We are the visible expression in this earth of the invisible God of the heavens.

2Co 3:2 You are our letter (an epistle, a written message), written in our hearts, known and read by all men;

2Co 3:3 being manifested that you are a letter (an epistle, a written message), of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. (NASB)

Jas 1:21 Therefore putting aside all filthiness and overflowing of evil, receive in meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.

Jas 1:22 But become doers (come into being as a poem/poet) of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (MKJV)

Eph 2:10 For we are God's [ownhandiwork (His workmanship) (a product, i.e. fabric – thing that is made; a poem), recreated (through the idea of the proprietorship of the manufacturer; to fabricate) in Christ Jesus, [born anewthat we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [ living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (AMP)

The full purpose of us being recreated in and through Christ is described in the abovementioned Scriptures. To fully understand this purpose allow me to take you on an exciting journey through the creation process of God as portrayed in Genesis, Chapters 1, 2 and 3. Everything that God ever had in mind for us is described in detail in these three chapters and by understanding this we would be able to understand the fullness of the recreation work of Christ Jesus.

Before I start with Section 1 (which will focus on the creation of the heaven and the earth), I want to touch on something very significant that happened before the earth was created (before the foundation of the world).

This major event is recorded in Ephesians 1:3-5

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love

Eph 1:5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,

God’s eternal plan of salvation was already in place in Christ Jesus long before the foundation of the world, i.e. before the earth was created. God chose His Son, Jesus Christ and chose and predestined us in His Son.

Meaning of “predestine”:

- To predetermine or decree beforehand; to decide beforehand; to foreordain; to appoint beforehand

- used in the New Testament of God decreeing from eternity

In Romans 8:29-30, predestination is used of God's actions in eternally decreeing both the objects and goal of His plan of salvation

Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Rom 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

Rom 8:30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

In John 17:24 Jesus Christ confirms that He was with the Father before the foundation of the world

Joh 17:24 "Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.

Peter said that we were redeemed with the precious blood of Jesus Christ who was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was revealed now for our sake, so that we through Him could become believers

1Pe 1:18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,

1Pe 1:19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

1Pe 1:20 For He was foreknown (foreordained) before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you

1Pe 1:21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

I will elaborate extensively on Christ’s redemptive work starting before the foundation of the world under the “Third Dispensation Teachings”.

I want you to constantly bear in mind that “the story of God is all about Jesus Christ and His finished work!”

SECTION 1

CREATION OF HEAVEN & EARTH

In this section, I will focus on the creation of the Heavens and the earth

We start with the very first verse in the Bible, Genesis 1:1 which consists of 7(seven) Hebrew words constituting the total fullness and completeness of God’s creation (7 being the Biblical number for completeness or fullness).

Gen 1:1 In the beginningH7225 GodH430 createdH1254 (H853) the heavenH8064 and the earth.H776

GENESIS 1:1

…in Hebrew

בראשית ברא אלוהים את השמים ואת הארץ

Hebrew scholars take out 30 combinations of 7 just from Genesis 1:1

Ivan Panin on seven

An interesting phenomenon of the pattern of sevens in Genesis 1:1 and Matthew 1:18-25 discovered by Ivan Panin (documented by Grant R. Jeffrey in "The Signature of God")

The Astonishing Pattern of SEVENS in Genesis 1:1

"In the beginning ,God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1)

Ivan Panin carefully examined the Hebrew text of Genesis 1:1 and discovered an incredible phenomenon of multiples of 7 that could not be explained by chance. Genesis 1:1 was composed of seven Hebrew words containing a total of 28 letters. Throughout the Bible the number seven appears repeatedly as a symbol of divine perfection - the 7 days of creation, God rested on the 7th day, the 7 churches, the 7 seals, the 7 trumpets, etc. In total, Panin discovered 30 separate codes involving the number 7 in this first verse of the Bible.

A Partial Listing of the Phenomenal Features of Sevens Found in Genesis 1:1

1

The number of Hebrew words = 7

2

The number of letters equals 28 (7x4 = 28)

3

The first 3 Hebrew words translated "In the beginning God created" have14 letters (7x2 = 14)

4

The last four Hebrew words "the heavens and the earth" have 14 letters (7x2 = 14)

5

The fourth and fifth words have 7 letters

6

The sixth and seventh words have 7 letters

7

The three key words: God, heaven and earth have 14 letters (7x2 = 14)

8

The number of letters in the four remaining words is also 14 (7x2 = 14)

9

The shortest word in the verse is the middle word with 7 letters

10

The Hebrew numeric value of the first, middle and last letters is 133 (7x19 = 133)

11

The Hebrew numeric value of first and last letters of all seven words is 1393 (7x199 = 1393)

The number "seven" permeates the totality of Scripture because the number speaks of God's divine perfection and perfect order. The actual number 7 appears 287 times in the Old Testament (7 x 41 = 287) while the word "seventh" occurs 98 times (7 x 14 = 98). The word "seven-fold" appears seven times. In addition, the word "seventy" is used 56 times (7 x 8 = 56).

Ivan Panin discovered literally thousands of such mathematical patterns underlying all of the books of the Old Testament before his death in 1942. I refer the interested reader to Panin's book, The Inspiration of the Scriptures Scientifically Demonstrated, which discusses these phenomena extensively. Panin and others have examined other Hebrew literature and have attempted to find such mathematical patterns, but they are not found anywhere outside the Bible.

The Pattern of SEVENS in Matthew 1:18-25 - The History of Christ's Birth

1

The number of words in the seven word passage is 161 (7x23 = 161)

2

The number of Vocabulary words is 77 (7x11 = 77)

3

Six Greek words occur only in this passage and never again in Matthew. These six Greek words contain precisely 56 letters (7x8 = 56)

4

The number of distinct proper names in the passage is 7

5

The number of Greek letters in these seven proper names is 42 (7x6 = 42)

6

The number of words spoken by the angel to Joseph is 28 (7x4 = 28)

7

The number of Greek forms of words used in this passage is 161 (7x23 = 161)

8

The number of Greek forms of words in the angel's speech is 35 (7x5 = 35)

9

The number of letters in the angel's 35 forms of words is 168 (7x24 = 168)

Two key concepts in Genesis 1:1 defined: “Beginning” and “God”

  • Beginning:

Before the beginning – there was only God.

Everything that is now visible and tangible was once unseen and hidden inside of God.

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

    In the “beginning”:

In the dateless past ; the first in place, time, order or rank; entrance into being, origin

John 1:1-3 completely ties up with Genesis Chapters 1 and 2

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word (Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. (NASB)

God spans eternity – from the beginning to the end

Rev 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." (NKJV)

Who is this God mentioned in Genesis 1:1?

It is virtually impossible to describe or define God, so I am not even going to try to do that. For the purpose of this teaching I will just focus on the Hebrew word used in Genesis 1:1 for “God” and those used in Genesis 2:7 for “the Lord God”

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God [ 'elohı ̂ ym ( el-o-heem)] created the heavens and the earth.

Gen 2:7 Then the LORD [ yeho ̂ va ̂ h ( yeh-ho-vaw)] God [ 'elohı ̂ ym ( el-o-heem)] formed man of dust from the ground,

Throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, two chief names are used for the One True Divine Being

Elohim , commonly translated God, and

Jehovah , which is translated as Lord

  • GOD: Hebrew: 'elohı ̂ ym ( el-o-heem)

The primary idea of the word “ELOHIM”: is that of “strength” and “power of effect”. “ELOHIM” properly describes God in the way in which He exhibits Himself to all men in His works, as the Creator, Sustainer and Supreme Governor of the world.

The word “Elohim” explained in more detail

Elohim is the plural of Eloah

In the English language one gets a singular noun and plural nouns whereas in the Hebrew language you get: 1. Singular, 2. Twofold (dual) and 3. More than two

    Elohim is more than two.

Eloah - the singular noun means: the Everlasting, and

Elohim - the plural form (more than two) means: the Eternal Powers at work; the Creator and Judge of the universe.

Elohim can also be interpreted as either the plural of majesty, or denoting the fullness of divine strength, and the sum of the powers displayed by God.

    (Smith’s Bible Dictionary)

The following very interesting extract from Fausset’s Bible Dictionary – e-Sword elaborates on the word “Elohim”

    The plural ELOHIM: expressing that He combines in Himself all the fullness of divine perfections in their manifold powers and operations;

ELOHIM concentrates all the divine attributes of infinite love, goodness, justice, wisdom, creative power, inexhaustible riches of excellence; unity, self existence, grace, and providence

ELOHIM expresses the might of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.

ELYON , His sublimity, (Genesis 14:22), "the Most High" – [Sublimity: refers to greatness beyond all possibility of calculation, measurement or imitation (my insert)].

    SHADDAI , the "Almighty," His all sufficiency (Genesis 17:1; Philippians 4:19; 2Corinthians 3:5; 2Corinthians 12:9)

JEHOVAH : His unchangeable faithfulness to His covenanted promises to His people. ADONAI, His lordship, which being delegated to others as also is His might as ELOHIM, ADONAI and ELOHIM are used occasionally of His creatures, angels and men in authority, judges, etc. (end of Fausset’s)

    Jehovah (Yahweh): Hebrew: yeho ̂ va ̂ h ( yeh-ho-vaw)

Jehovah (Yahweh – “to be”) = Lord can also be translated as “Always God” or God “Always”, because “He has always been who He is and will always be just the same” (David Pawson in “Unlocking the Bible”, Page 28)

    Further elaboration on the aforementioned

Exo 3:14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

And God said unto Moses, I am that I am ... This signifies the real being of God, his self-existence, and that he is the Being of beings; as also it denotes his eternity and immutability, and his constancy and faithfulness in fulfilling his promises, for it includes all time, past, present, and to come; and the sense is, not only I am what I am at present, but I am what I have been, and I am what I shall be, and shall be what I am. (John Gills Exposition of the Entire Bible – E-Sword)

    Very significant:

Although the plural form – “Elohim” is used in Genesis 1:1, the singular verb form is used. This indicates that the Deity (although a “many facetted Being”) operates as “One close Unity”

NB! The Deity (Godhead – Father, Son and Holy Spirit) always operates coequally, coeternally and co-existently as one unit, but each member has got a specific function: the executive is the Father, the architect is the Son and the contractor is the Holy Spirit.

    God the Father initiates every Godly working and activity;

    Jesus Christ gives visibility to these initiatives;

The Holy Spirit makes everything practical and tangible in my life!

Indeed a Divine order and unity.

Two great examples of the order withing the deity

1Jn 5:7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. (one.G1520 (nu.ajn))

A closer look at the use of the word “one”G1520 (nu.ajn) in this Scripture reveals the following:

“One” here is an Ordinal Number used as an Adjectival Noun – a number used to express order rather than quantity

What John is actually saying here is: “the Father and the Word (Logos=Christ) and the Holy Spirit is one in a unique orderEach one understands and supports the functional position of the other and as such they flow in complete unity.

Now Jesus is praying a profound prayer in John 17

Joh 17:11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one(one.G1520 (nu.ajn)) as We are.

Joh 17:21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one(one.G1520 (nu.ajn)) in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Joh 17:22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one(one.G1520 (nu.ajn)) just as We are one(one.G1520 (nu.ajn)):

Joh 17:23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one(one.G1520 (nu.ajn)), and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me .

Jesus is asking His Father: bring My people in the very same order as we are, that they will understand and acknowledge each other’s functional position in the body.

This will create UNITY.

So in Genesis 1:1 God, “Elohim” as the Eternal Powers, the Creator and Judge of the universe is at work

“CREATION OF HEAVEN AND EARTH”

Gen 1:1 In the beginningH7225 GodH430 createdH1254 (H853) the heavenH8064 and the earth.H776 (King James Version with Strong’s Hebrew numbers)

Before I elaborate on the creation process let’s first look at four distinct Hebrew words used in the Bible to describe the creation process. This will give us a better understanding of this awesome work of God

1)(asah) – a verb meaning: to bring forth, “to create or form from existing material”, “to bring something into its intended purpose”, to create, to construct Also: to do, to make, to accomplish, to complete, to work, build, to prepare, to appoint, to fulfil.

This conveys the central notion of performing an activity with a distinct purpose or a goal in view .

Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make (asah – bring forth) man in Our imageaccording to Our likenesslet them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

2)(bara) – a verb meaning: to bring into existence, to bring into being, to create, to carve from nothing or the invisible or the unseen, form, make, produce, to cut

It also means: “to bring something to pass in a striking and marvellous manner”.

Entirely new productions are associated with “bara”

With regard to creation “bara” refers to an activity which can only be performed by God.

“Bara” – emphasizes the initiation of the object – NOT MANIPULATING IT AFTER ORIGINAL CREATION – which means that I, as a spirit being, possess a free will. God does not manipulate me or enforce Himself upon me.

In the account of creation “bara” and “asah” alternate - “Bara” conveys the thought of creation “ex nihilo” (out of nothing or the invisible) while “asah” is broader in scope and deals with refinement. In other words the emphasis of “asah” is on fashioning the created objects.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created (bara) the heaven and the earth.

Gen 1:27 So God created (bara) man in His own image; in the image of God He created (bara) him; male and female He created (bara) them.

Hebrews 11:3 confirms the creation of visible things from the invisible

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Wordstudy (e-Sword) explanation of the Hebrew word “bara” (very interesting):

H1254

Ba ̄ ra ̄  : A verb meaning to create Only God is the subject of this verb. It is used for His creating: heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1); humanity (Genesis 1:27); the heavenly host (Isaiah 40:26); the ends of the earth (Isaiah 40:28); north and south (Psalm 89:12 [13]); righteousness; salvation (Isaiah 45:8); evil (Isaiah 45:7). David asked God to "create" in him a clean heart (Psalm 51:10 [12]). Isaiah promised that God will create a new heaven and earth (Isaiah 65:17).

There are other roots that are spelled the same, but have different meanings. These include: to make fat (1Samaul 2:29); to clear timber (Joshua 17:15, 18; Ezekiel 23:47); and to choose (Ezekiel 21:19 [24], KJV).

3)(yatsar)  Derived from the idea of cutting or framing and is used to express God’s “planning” or “preordaining” according to His Divine purpose.

“Yatsar” means: “to squeeze together into shape” or “to mould into a form especially as a potter” - the word implies initiation as well as structuring.

Yatzar also has the following meanings attached to it:

To form, to fashion, to fold, to shape, to devise, to design, to express

To frame or produce (to reconstruct by fitting parts together), to predestine

The term also refers to constructed thoughts and purposes and may also be used to express the “forming of plans in one’s mind.

“Yatsar” also entails: God “predestined” man meaning: to destine, decree, determine, appoint, to give destiny

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed (yatsar) man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a livingbeing (soul).

Gen 2:8 The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed (yatsar).

4)(banah) – A verb meaning to build, build up, rebuild, construct.

It is used in a figurative sense: Eve was built from Adam's rib, not created separately

Gen 2:22: (AMP) And the rib or part of his side which the Lord God had taken from the man He built up and made into (banah) a woman, and He brought her to the man.

HOW THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH WERE CREATED

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created (bara) the heaven and the earth.

  • The pivotal role of the Word (the Logos)

CREATION came into existence by and through the omnipresent LOGOS (the Word - JESUS CHRIST, the incarnated Logos) and the Holy Spirit

Genesis 1:1, John 1:1-3 & 10 and Hebrws 1:2-3 give mutual support and clarity on the creation process:

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:10 He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, (AMP)

Heb 1:2 [But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of aSon, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through Whom He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time [ He made, produced, built, operated, and arranged them in order].

Heb 1:3 He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God's] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. (AMP)

All things came into being through the Logos (the Word - JESUS CHRIST, the incarnated Logos) – the Logos is the medium of the total creative activity of God.

When God speaks, He creates! God first created the heaven and the earth by speaking it into existence Genesis 1:1:

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created (bara) the heaven and the earth.

The Hebrew word “bara” is used here as “created” and means: “to bring into being; to form out of nothing or out of the invisible”

In the beginning, God just pulled everything out of Himself and brought it into eternal complete existence – through His Word (the Logos – JESUS CHRIST, the incarnated Logos - God’s creative power).

He pulled the earth out of the invisibility of Himself, gave existence to it and hung it on nothing – on His command the earth stays in orbit.

Everything that is now visible and tangible was once unseen and hidden inside of God.

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Job 26:7 "He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing.(NASB)

More Scriptures to confirm “the Word” (the Logos) as the creative power and outflow of God and to elaborate on the creation process

Rom 11:36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. [ For all things originate with Him and come from Him; all things live through Him, and all things center in and tend to consummate and to end in Him. ] To Him be glory forever! Amen (so be it). (AMP)

1Co 8:6 Yet for us there is [only] one God, the FatherWho is the Source of all things and for Whom we [ have life], and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through and by Whom are all things and through and by Whom we [ourselves exist]. (AMP)

Col 1:15 He (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Col 1:16 For by Him all things were createdboth in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him.

Col 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together (or consist)

Psa 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host.

Psa 102:25 "Of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

Isa 40:12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span, And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales?

Isa 45:18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited), "I am the LORD, and there is none else.

Eph 3:9 and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things;

Heb 1:10 And, "You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands;

Heb 3:4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Rev 4:11 "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honour and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created."

Insertion on the concept “earth” (from Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old Testament Words – E-Sword)

Earth – Hebrew: 'erets (H776),

"Earth; land" This is one of the most common Hebrew nouns, occurring more than 2,500 times in the Old Testament. It expresses a world view contrary to ancient myths, as well as many modern theories seeking to explain the origin of the universe and the forces which sustain it.

'Erets may be translated "earth," the temporal scene of human activity, experience, and history. The material world had a beginning when God "made the earth by His power," "formed it," and "spread it out" (Isaiah 40:28; Isaiah 42:5; Isaiah 45:12, Isaiah 45:18; Jeremiah 27:5; Jeremiah 51:15). Because He did so, it follows that "the earth is the Lord's" (Psalm 24:1; Deuteronomy 10:1; Exodus 9:29; Nehemiah 9:6). No part of it is independent of Him, for "the very ends of the earth are His possession," including "the mountains," "the seas," "the dry land," "the depths of the earth" (Psalm 2:8; Psalm 95:4-5; Amos 4:13; Jonah 1:9).

God formed the earth to be inhabited (Isaiah 45:18). Having "authority over the earth" by virtue of being its Maker, He decreed to "let the earth sprout vegetation: of every kind" (Job 34:13; Genesis 1:11). It was never to stop its productivity, for "while the earth stands, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease" (Genesis 8:22). "The earth is full of God's riches" and mankind can "multiply and fill the earth and subdue it" (Psalm 104:24; Genesis 1:28; Genesis 9:1). Let no one think that the earth is an independent, self-contained mechanism, for "the Lord reigns" as He "sits on the vault of the earth" from where "He sends rain on the earth" (Psalm 97:1; Isaiah 40:22; 1Kings 17:14; Psalm 104:4).

As "the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the earth," He sees that "there is not a just man on earth" (Ecclesiastes 7:20). At an early stage, God endeavoured to "blot out man... from the face of the earth" (Genesis 6:5-7). Though He relented and promised to "destroy never again all flesh on the earth," we can be sure that "He is coming to judge the earth" (Genesis 7:16 ff.; Psalm 96:13). At that time, "the earth shall be completely laid waste" so that "the exalted people of the earth fade away" (Jeremiah 10:10; Joel 2:10; Isaiah 33:3-6; Psalm 75:8). But He also provides a way of escape for all who heed His promise: "Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth" (Isaiah 45:22).

What the Creator formed "in the beginning" is also to have an end, for He will "create a new heaven and a new earth" (Isaiah 65:17; Isaiah 66:22).

(End of Vines OT)

God still had to fashion the created earth to make it fit for habitation!

According to Genesis 1:2 the created earth was formless and void, and darkness was all over, making it uninhabitable;

Gen 1:2 The earth was formless and void (without form and an empty waste), and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving (fluttering; hovering; brooding) over the surface of the waters. (NASB)

There are a few theories of how the earth became formless and void, but I do not want to debate on that, seeing that it is irrelevant to my teachings.

Meanings of the words: “formless”, “void” and “darkness”:

Formless (without form)

Formlessness; an empty place, without form or order, disorder

Void (an empty waste)

Emptiness

It depicts the state of matter after God had created it but before He had fashioned it for habitation.

Darkness

The absence of light (I will elaborate on the meaning of “light” later on)

Darkness is associated with disorder, confusion and uncertainty and is distinguished and separated from light.

Surface of the deep

It indicates the deep, primeval ocean on earth as created by God

The Spirit of God was moving

Gen 1:2 ....., and the Spirit of God was moving (fluttering; hovering; brooding) over the surface of the waters. (NASB)

The Spirit of God was moving; fluttering; hovering; brooding (by implication to be relaxed)

“Brood” means to sit on and cover, as a hen on her eggs for the purpose of warming them and hatching chickens, or as a hen over her chickens, to warm and protect them.

The Spirit of God was relaxed while protecting the earth, giving His warmth to it in preparation of the fashioning process – waiting for God to make the next move - (for God to act in speaking).

Joh 16:12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

Joh 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Joh 16:14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. (NASB)

Now God started to fashion the world into a habitable place by speaking forth.

Gen 1

Gen 1:3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

Gen 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." Gen 1:7....... and it was so.

Gen 1:9 Then God said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.

Gen 1:11 Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so.

Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

Gen 1:15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.

Gen 1:20 Then God said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens."

Gen 1:21 God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

Gen 1:24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so.

In all the aforementioned instances the moment “God said” - the Word (Logos) and the Holy Spirit were at work – creating, forming, shaping and establishing

NB! God’s speaking is His action, for God’s speech is His “energy released” in any given situation.

When God speaks, He creates!

The Word (Logos) is ever active in: creating, doing, maintaining and sustaining.

This is the way God operates – by His Word (Logos) – by speaking forth – God said:

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Joh 1:14 And the Word (Logos) became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (NASB)

Everything was created (came into being) by His Word (the LOGOS) and everything that was created is upheld by His Word (RHEMA)

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word (RHEMA) of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Note the way God speaks – “Let there be”

Let: To make appear; to make visible; to be instituted, be established, be in existence and be brought about

The word “LET” also means:

To be, to become, to happen, to come to pass, to be done, to take place, occur, come about, to come into being, to be done, be finished and “to give purpose to already existing things”.

This command is used by God twelve times in Genesis 1: 3-20 to change the earth from a state of formlessness, emptiness and darkness to a habitable place.

Very interesting: The Bible uses different variations of the verb “LET”, each with a different meaning attached to it to describe each creative process :

1) Let there beH1961

Gen 1:3 Then God said, "Let there be1961 light"; and there was light.

Gen 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be1961 an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." Gen 1:7....... and it was so.

Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be1961 lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

Gen 1:15 and let them be1961 for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.

Let there beH1961 means:

Exist, become, come to pass, be done, takes place.

Come into being, be established, be in existence, be brought about, and be finished.

2) Let the earthH776 bring forthH1876 grass

Gen 1:11 Then God said, "Let the earth776 bring forth1876 grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so.

Bring forth1876 means

To produce green plants or fresh green grass, grow green, to cause to sprout, cause to shoot forth

With the earth as its subject, it depicts the initial production of green vegetables or grass

3) Let the watersH4325 bring forth abundantlyH8317

Gen 1:20 Then God said, " Let the watersH4325 bring forth abundantlyH8317 living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens."

Bring forth abundantlyH8317

A verb meaning: to swarm; to breed abundantly; to multiply. It means to teem, to swarm in numbers and in rate of birth and multiplication; to bring forth and increase abundantly

4) Let the earthH776 bring forthH3318 the livingH2416 creatureH5315

Gen 1:24 Then God said, " Let the earthH776 bring forthH3318 the livingH2416 creatureH5315 according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind"; and it was so.

Bring forthH3318 means:

To cause to go out, to come or go forth,

It indicates bringing forth, producing living creatures from the ground

5) All thingsG3956 were madeG1096 byG1223 him;G846

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos] (All thingsG3956 were madeG1096 byG1223 him;G846and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Were madeG1096means:

To begin to be, (to cause to be) that is, to come into existence or into any state as implying origin (either from natural causes or through special agencies);

To have come into existence or simply: to be; to become, receive being

Literally, came into being, or became – expressing the passage from nothingness into being, and the unfolding of a divine order.

From the above we gather that God has amazingly designed a specific word for a specific situation. Keep this in mind as we later on discuss the subject of “How to function in His likeness”.

This is something very important:

When God wanted to bring forth plants, He spoke to the earth.

Gen 1:11 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so.

Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

When God wanted to bring forth fish, He spoke to the waters.

Gen 1:20 Then God said, "Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens."

When God wanted to bring forth animals, He spoke to the earth.

Gen 1:24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind"; and it was so.

God always spoke to the relevant source to bring forth (asah) the specific thing that was to be created, and for that created thing to survive, to prosper and to flourish, it had to stay attached to its originated source.

E.g.: Take a fish out of the water and it will surely die. Take a plant out of the earth or plant it in poor soil and it will surely whither or bear bad quality fruit.

From the above we can conclude that God created the heavens and the earth and everything that is upon and above the earth by His Word (His Logos) and His Spirit.

NB! God’s speaking is His action, for God’s speech is His “energy released” in any given situation. Speaking and doing is one and the same thing for God.

This is the way God operates – by His Word – by speaking forth.

THE CREATION OF “LIGHT”

Very significant: The very first thing that God created was: “LIGHT”

Gen 1:3 Then God said, "Let there beH1961 lightH216"; and there was light.

What is “LIGHT” (Hebrew:’ôr and Greek: phos) and why “LIGHT” first?

The Hebrew word for light -’ôr used in Gen 1:3 means:

“LIGHT IN ITSELF COMING FROM A SOURCE” whereas the lights (sun and moon) which were created on the fourth day (Genesis 1:14) are “SOURCES OF LIGHT” and the Hebrew word used here is “Ma'or” which means: “a luminous body”.

Flowing from this we can understand that in Genesis 1:3 GOD Himself is the “LIGHT IN ITSELF COMING FROM A SOURCE” as well as the “SOURCE OF THIS LIGHT”

The concept “light” explained: Understanding the meaning of light will shed more light on what happened in Genesis 1:3

Physically light is of course:

Light, brightness, lightning and illumination

Figuratively light stands for:

Enlightenment, happiness, cheerfulness, clear and clarity

Biblically light represents:

Where darkness in the Bible is associated with death, failure, suffering, folly and sin, Light is associated with life, salvation, prosperity, wisdom and justice.

LIGHT IS KNOWLEDGE, INSIGHT, UNDERSTANDING AND WISDOM.

THE LIFE OF CHRIST IS THE LIGHT OF MANKIND (John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.)

2Co 4:6 For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

LIGHT IS ALSO A FORM OF “ENERGY”!!!! – Scientifically and spiritually

So what is the true dynamics described in Genesis 1:3?

To truly understand the profoundness of the creation process described in Genesis 1:3, let’s first define the nature, the essence and the being of God.

There are two distinct Scriptures highlighting the essence and being of God.

1Jn 4:8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1Jn 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that

God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

The word “IS” means: “to exist”; “to be”; “the reason for existence”

SO God is telling us that the reason for His existence is “LOVE” and is “LIGHT” – He exists to love us and to be light to us, i.e. life, salvation, prosperity, justice, knowledge, insight, understanding, wisdom and energy.

This unformed, empty earth needed divine “energy” (light = energy) to activate and facilitate the rest of the creation process.

God first saturated the earth with His essence and being of “energy/light” – thus bringing His ability, His knowledge, His energy, insight, understanding and wisdom, His brightness, righteousness and glory, His prosperity, joy, love and life into the earth.

Joh 1:1 IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. [Isa. 9:6.]

Joh 1:2 He was present originally with God.

Joh 1:3 All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

Joh 1:4 In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it]. (AMP)

The moment God said: “Let there be light” – the Word and the Holy Spirit impregnated the earth with the creative and sustainable energy of God.

This is one of the most wonderful works of the Holy Spirit – a covert working – a constant stream of energy and life flowing from God into us and also through us.

A very significant fact: The moment light comes forth from a source it functions independent of that source, meaning that God gives light to us in all its facets and we can use it or abuse it.

The earth (now saturated with God’s energy) was ready to receive and act upon the spoken word of God.

The very moment the word spoken from God’s mouth connected with energized matter (earth, water and the sky), sustainable life was brought forth – i.e. expanse, plants and grass, living creatures in the water, animals and birds.

*Reader – The Supplementary Teaching under Section 2 elaborates extensively on the subject: “LIGHT”

  SECTION 2:

Supplementary Teaching

LIGHT

In this Teaching I am going to focus on the subjects:

“GOD IS LIGHT” and “LIGHT AS GOD’S ENERGY”

Let’s start with what others have to say about the subject of light.

Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words – VINE NT – E-Sword

Light: “phos” (G5457),

"Primarily light is a luminous emanation, probably of force, from certain bodies, which enables the eye to discern form and colour.

Light requires an organ adapted for its reception (Matthew 6:22). Where the eye is absent, or where it has become impaired from any cause, light is useless.

Mathew 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.

Man, naturally, is incapable of receiving spiritual light inasmuch as he lacks the capacity for spiritual things, 1Corinthians 2:14.

1Co 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

Therefore believers are called 'sons of light,' Luke 16:8, not merely because they have received a revelation from God, but because in the New Birth they have received the spiritual capacity for it.

"Apart from natural phenomena, light is used in Scripture of

(a)The glory of God's dwelling place, 1Timothy 6:16

1Ti 6:15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

1Ti 6:16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

Isa 60:19 "No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And your God for your glory.

Isa 60:20 "Your sun will no longer set, Nor will your moon wane; For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And the days of your mourning will be over.

(f) The Lord Jesus as the illuminator of men, John 1:4, John 1:5, John 1:9; John 3:19; John 8:12; John 9:5; John 12:35, John 12:36, John 12:46; Acts 13:47;

Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

2Co 11:14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

2Co 11:15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.

1Jn 2:9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.

Job 30:26 "When I expected good, then evil came; When I waited for light, then darkness came.

Victory (Micah 7:8-9);

Expressions involving light include:

The light of one's face , meaning someone's favour (Psalm 44:3 [4]);

Psa 44:3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them.

(End of Vine NT)

Easton’s Bible Dictionary – EASTON – E-Sword

Light:

It frequently signifies instruction (Matthew 5:16; John 5:35).

Mat 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

In its highest sense it is applied to Christ as the “Sun of righteousness” (Malachi 4:2; Luke 2:32; John 1:7-9).

Mal 4:2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

Luk 2:32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel."

Joh 1:7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.

Joh 1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

Joh 1:9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

God is styled “the Father of lights” (James 1:17).

Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

It is used of angels (2Corinthians 11:14), and of John the Baptist, who was a “burning and a shining light” (John 5:35), and of all true disciples, who are styled “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

2Co 11:14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Joh 5:35 "He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

Mat 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia – ISBE – E-Sword

Light:

The ultimate focusing of light (on the 4th day of creation, Genesis 1:14) in suns, stars, and solar systems brought the initial creative process to completion, as the essential condition of all organic life.

Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

The origin of light thus finds its explanation in the purpose and very nature of God whom John defines as not only the Author of light but, in an all-inclusive sense, as light itself: “God is light” (1John 1:5).

1Jn 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

Here are more explanations on the concept “light”

The Hebrew word “ôr” means:

Light, brightness, lightning, illumination, enlightenment, happiness, cheerfulness, bright clear

Light is also a form of “energy”!– Scientifically and spiritually

Here are some interesting scientific facts about light!

Light is a form of energy

Light is a form of energy that travels freely through space. It is electromagnetic radiation, just like radio waves, infrared radiation and x-rays.

We can only see part of the range of electromagnetic radiation (the spectrum). The part that we can see is light.

We see things every day. We look at everything around us using light, but we are not directly connected with what we see. We are in fact, seeing light – light that somehow left objects far or near and reached our eyes. Light is all our eyes can really see.

GOD IS LIGHT

Because God is Light – we have the spiritual capacity in Christ to see (understand and walk with) Him!!

Light as defined by Webster in “Webster’s 1828 Dictionary” – WEBSTER –E-Sword

That ethereal agent or matter which makes objects perceptible to the sense of seeing, but the particles of which are separately invisible

It is now generally believed that light is a fluid, or real matter, existing independent of other substances, with properties peculiar to itself.

Its velocity is astonishing, as it passes through a space of nearly twelve millions of miles in a minute.

Light, when decomposed, is found to consist of rays differently coloured; as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

The sun is the principal source of light in the solar system; but light is also emitted from bodies ignited, or in combustion, and is reflected from enlightened bodies, as the moon. Light is also emitted from certain putrefying substances. It is usually united with heat, but it exists also independent of it.

ADAM in relation to light:

When Adam sinned he was cut off from the light and energy of God and man started to walk in darkness.

Jesus Christ came to restore the flow of God’s light and energy to us:

Prophecies in this regard:

Isa 9:6 For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Isa 9:7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.

Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,

Rev 21:23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

Jerusalem referred to in verse 2 is the church – the Body of Christ.

Heb 12:18 For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,

Heb 12:19 and to the blast of a trumpet and the sound of words which sound was such that those who heard begged that no further word be spoken to them.

Heb 12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

Rev 22:5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.

Jesus Christ came

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (Naturally BLACK material absorbs all light they receive – that is why they appear black. In this instance, darkness (black) could not absorb the light of God!)

Joh 1:6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.

Joh 1:7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.

Joh 1:8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

Joh 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. (NASB)

Joh 3:14 "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up;

Joh 3:15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.

Joh 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Joh 3:17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

Joh 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Joh 3:19 "This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.

Joh 3:20 "For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

Joh 3:21 "But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God." (NASB)

Now these great sayings of Jesus:

Joh 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

Joh 12:44 And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.

Joh 12:45 "He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.

Joh 12:46 "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.

Joh 11:9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

Joh 11:10 "But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."

God gave His light back to us:

Joh 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. (NASB)

Joh 1:9 ...the true Light, .......enlightens every man.

Joh 1:9 There it was--the true Light....that illumines every person.(AMP)

Joh 1:9 the true light, which gives light to every man, (BBE)

Definition of the word “Enlightens”:

To illuminate, make one see or understand (Psalm 119:130; Ephesians 3:8-10)

Psa 119:130 The entrance and unfolding of Your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple.

Eph 3:8 To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ,

Eph 3:9 and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things;

Eph 3:10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.

Thayer Definition:

1) To give light, to shine

2) To enlighten, light up, illumine

3) To bring to light, render evident

4) To cause something to exist and thus come to light and become clear to all

5) To enlighten, spiritually, imbue with saving knowledge

6) To instruct, to inform, teach,

7) To give understanding to

The light of God brings illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God

2Co 4:6 For God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [to beam forth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ (the Messiah). [Gen. 1:3.]

2Co 4:7 However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves. (AMP)

We are part of this light of God

Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

Col 1:10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Col 1:11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously

Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.

Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

Col 1:14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

We are called “sons of light”

1Th 5:4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;

1Th 5:5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;

We have been called out of darkness into His light

1Pe 2:9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Walking in the Light results in fellowship with one another and the continual cleansing of the blood

1Jn 1:5 And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way].

1Jn 1:6 [So] if we say we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [ both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents].

1Jn 1:7 But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [ keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations]. (AMP)

[What an awesome result of walking in the Light]

Walking in the True Light results in walking in love

1Jn 2:8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light (the revelation of God in Christ-AMP) is already shining.

1Jn 2:9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.

1Jn 2:10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

1Jn 2:11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Jesus declared the following concerning us:

Mat 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.

Mat 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;

Mat 5:15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Mat 5:16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

How is it possible that we can be the light of the world, while Jesus said He is the Light of the world?

Here is the answer!

In Genesis 1:14 it is recorded how God created the sun and the moon:

Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

Gen 1:15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.

Gen 1:16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the nightHe made the stars also.

Gen 1:17 God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,

The sun is a source of light, but not the moon and yet God made both to give light. The moon only reflects the light of the sun and as such is also a light.

God, who is Light and the Source of light, is constantly shining His Light through His Son, Jesus Christ in and upon us

We reflect His light to the world (and also back to Him in worship and adoration) and thus we are also called the light of the world.

LIGHT AS GOD’S ENERGY

God’s speaking is His action, for God’s speech is His “energy released”

In this topic I will touch on a somewhat covert working of the Holy Spirit,

the release and activating of the unseen "ENERGY" of God.

The best way to explain the invisible "ENERGY" of God is to compare it with "ELECTRICITY".

"ELECTRICITY" is best defined by the results it produces. It is generated in a power station and conveyed to our homes and offices via a network of cables and wires. It is invisible and not so easily defined. We experience the results of the electricity: electrical equipment is working e.g. lights, computers, stoves, microwave ovens etc.

The "ENERGY OF GOD" works in a similar way. It is invisible, is generated by God Himself and produces some awesome results in our everyday walk of life.

The New Testament uses four Greek words to describe the workings and results produced by the energy of God;

  1. Working : (1753) – “energeia”

Meaning: at work, operativeactive, ENERGYthe being at work, operation, efficiency, active power

Used in the following Scriptures:

Eph 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

Eph 1:18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Eph 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working1753 of His mighty power

Eph 1:20 which He worked1754 in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Eph 1:21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

Eph 1:22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,

Eph 1:23, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Eph 3:3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already,

Eph 3:5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets:

Eph 3:6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel,

Eph 3:7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working1753 of His power

Eph 4:15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—

Eph 4:16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working1753 by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Col 1:27 to them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Col 1:28 them we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

Col 1:29 to this end I also labor, striving according to His working1753 which works1754 in me mightily.

  1. To work: (1754) – “energeo”

Meaning: in work, operative, active, to be at work, to be effective, operative, produce an effect, the power of miracles.

    Miracles are wrought by God:

    Used in the following Scriptures:

Eph 1:20 which He worked1754 in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Php 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Php 2:13 for it is God who works1754 in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Gal 2:7 But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter

Gal 2:8 (for He who worked effectively1754 in Peter for the apostleship to the circumcised also worked effectively1754 in me toward the Gentiles),

To produce

1Co 12:4 there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

1Co 12:5 there are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.

1Co 12:6 And there are diversities of activities [workings(operations)1755 ], but it is the same God who works1754 all in all.

1Co 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works1754 all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Gal 3:5 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works1754 miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Eph 1:11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works1754 all things according to the counsel of His will,

  1. Effect, working (The result or effect of energy: (1755) – “Energema”

Meaning: The suffix “ma” makes it the result or effect of “energeia” – energy

Used only in 1 Corinthians 12:6 & 10 – of the results of the energy of God in the believer

1Co 12:6 And there are diversities of activities [workings(operations)1755 ], but it is the same God who works1754 all in all.

    1 Cor 12:6 – activities, operations(workings) – actually the results energized by God’s grace.

1Co 12:10 to another the working1755 of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

  2. Powerful, effective (1756) -”energes”

Meaning: Referring to energy, i.e. engaged in work, capable of doing, active, powerful, effective, to be at work

    Used in the following Scriptures:

1Co 16:9 For a great and effective1756 door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.

Phm 1:5 hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,

Phm 1:6 that the sharing of your faith may become effective1756 by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Heb 4:11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living(quick)2198 and powerful1756, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Heb 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. [with whom we have to do.3056 (Logos)]

Explanations of certain words used in Hebrews 4:12-13

    Powerful (1756)

Seems to have been used almost exclusively as medical terms referring to medical treatment and the influence of medicine

    Quick: (2198)

Zao – from the word “zeo” (2204): to bubble; the sound of boiling water, sure, never in vain, to be warm, to have life

    Sharper: (5114):

To cut, finer edged, as if by a single stroke

  • Another Scripture relating to light

The entrance of thy words gives light

Psa 119:130 The entrance and unfolding of Your words give lighttheir unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple. (AMP)

Albert Barnes’ Notes on the Bible – E-Sword has the following to say about -

The entrance of thy words gives light –

The Septuagint translates this, “the manifestation (or declaration) -- of thy words enlightens.”, “ When thy word is revealed, so it delivers us, and makes the simple wise.”

“The opening, entrance (revelation) of thy word,”

The Hebrew word - - means an “opening” or “entrance” - as of a gate, Joshua 20:4; Judges9:35; and then “ a door,” as of a tent or the temple, Genesis 18:1; 1Kings 6:8; or the gate of a city, Isaiah 3:26; and then it means opening, insight, instruction. The word as used here seems to denote the opening or unfolding of the word of God; the revelation of that word to the mind. A door is open so that we enter into a house; a gate, so that we enter into a city; and thus the meaning of the word of God is “opened” to us, so that we may, as it were, enter in and see its beauty. The language does not, therefore, denote the entrance of that word into the mind, but, it’s being made opento us so that we may perceive its beauty, or may ourselves “enter” into its meaning, its mysteries, and its beauties.

It gives understanding unto the simple - The word rendered “simple” literally means “those who are open to persuasion,” or who are easily enticed or seduced.

    The aforementioned Scriptures:

Jos 20:4 He who flees to one of those cities shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city and explain his case to the elders of that city; they shall receive him to [the protection of] that city and give him a place to dwell among them.

Jdg 9:35 And Gaal son of Ebed came out and stood in the entrance of the city's gate.

Gen 18:1 NOW THE Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks or terebinths of Mamre; as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day,

    1Ki 6:8 the entrance to the lowest side chamber was on the right [or south] side of the house;

Isa 3:26 And her gates will lament and mourn, And deserted she will sit on the ground.

    NATURAL SOURCES OF ENERGY SPIRITUALIZED

The sun and fire:

  • Fire

Together with the baptism with the Holy Spirit comes the baptism with fire where the energy of God is released into our lives – an invisible covert working of the Spirit

Luk 3:16 John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Another Scripture relating to the Holy Spirit and fire:

    Rev 4:5 Out from the throne come flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God;

Apart from the Holy Spirit fire being the energy of God, the fire of God is released to purify and cleanse us

Luk 3:17 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire."

The promise of the coming Saviour includes a promise to refine, purify and purge us to make us acceptable before God – indeed a profound work of the Holy Spirit

Mal 3:1 "Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming," Says the LORD of hosts.

Mal 3:2 "But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire And like launderers' soap.

Mal 3:3 He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the LORD An offering in righteousness.

Mal 3:4 "Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem Will be pleasant to the LORD, As in the days of old, As in former years.

  • Sun

The amazing effect of knowing Jesus Christ as the Sun of Righteousness

Mal 4:1 "For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up," Says the LORD of hosts, "That will leave them neither root nor branch.

Mal 4:2 But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

Mal 4:3 You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this," Says the LORD of hosts.

Jesus Christ became to us the Righteousness of God:

1Co 1:30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesuswho became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,

We are now the righteousness of God in Christ

2Co 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

2Co 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Understanding of righteousness leads to tremendous results:

The Sun of Righteousness, i.e. the energy of God through Jesus Christ will result in:

  • Radiant beams of healing being released upon us

  • Great prosperity, abundance and joy

  • Profound victories over our enemies
