INTRODUCTION

In this Teaching I will touch on these two most important subjects in the Bible – Logos and Rhema. Many times I have heard people say that the Bible is the Logos, and what we say is Rhema. Now that is in a certain sense true, but there are far more to these two powerful concepts than meets the eye.

You are about to embark on a journey where you will experience the power of God being released in and through you like never before.

You will learn how to operate in the Likeness of God (to operate the same way as God operates) – in and by His Logos and Rhema and find out the true meaning of being a co-worker with God.

We all know, of course, that in all of God’s workings the Holy Spirit is ever present and active and should I not mention the activities of the Spirit every time be assured that He is always at work.

So let’s get started:

Everything that was created by God, was created (came into being) by His Word (the LOGOS) and everything that was created is upheld by His Word (RHEMA)

The above is substantiated by John 1:1-4 and Hebrews 1:1-3

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word (RHEMA) of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Whenever God wants to express Himself visibly and tangibly in the earth He does it through the Logos and Rhema

This is the way God operates – by His Word (Logos & Rhema).

The Logos and Rhema is the universal operational expression of the fullness of God! We were created in His image (spirit, soul and body) and according to His likeness* – meaning we have the ability to operate like God operates – in and by His Word

To enable us to function fully in these abilities, it is of the utmost importance to be familiar with the meaning and working of these vital concepts - Logos and Rhema:

SECTION 1 - Logos

Definition of the word “logos” (Strong Greek 3056):

Logos denotes:

"The expression of thought"—not merely naming an object--

In relation to God, Logos is:

The creative, intelligent and understandable expression of who God is and the way He operates

The visible, tangible and life-changing expression of the thoughts of God – it is not a list of facts about the Godhead, but a Holy Spirit energized expression of God Himself and of His plans and purposes for creation.

The concept “logos” also entails:

Intelligence; word as the expression of that intelligence; discourse; saying; a statement; a speech; an account; and accounting

Logos is: something said (including the thought); by implication a topic (subject of discourse); also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extension a computation;

Logos is reasoned speech, Rhema, an utterance,

To summarize: The Bible is the written LOGOS – the written expression of the thoughts of God, because the Bible gives an orderly, intelligent and understandable account of God’s dealings with mankind

Jesus Christ is the Living and Creating LOGOS

The Holy Spirit is the uttered LOGOS

The Word of God is not just something that we read and speak.

The Word (Logos) is an ever active, creating, doing, maintaining, sustaining, and intelligent expression of who God is.

It is practical, visible, tangible and understandable.

SECTION 2 – Different ways God expresses Himself through the Logos

  1. JESUS CHRIST IS “THE LIVING LOGOS”

The Divine expression of the Deity – ‘The Logos’ is a title of the Son of God and is also the person of Christ

I want to emphasize the following:

Whenever God wants to express Himself visibly and tangibly in the earth He does it through the Logos and Rhema – i.e. through our Lord Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit

Col 1:13 For He (God) rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

Col 1:14 in whom (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Col 1:15 He (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Col 1:16 For by Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) and for Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son).

Col 1:17 He (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) is before all things, and in Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) all things hold together.

Col 1:18 He (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) is also head of the body, the church; and He (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) is the beginningthe firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.

Col 1:19 For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him(Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son),

Col 1:20 and through Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Col 2:9 For in Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,

Col 2:10 and in Him (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) you have been made complete, and He (Jesus Christ, God’s beloved Son) is the head over all rule and authority;

Jesus Christ, the incarnated Logos is the complete and total expression of the love of God towards us

*Reader NB! From this Divine Person of the Logos, Jesus Christ flows every other Logos related activity i.e. creation, revelation, doctrine, working, healing, gospel, restoration, grace, truth, etc.

Something to remember:

God does nothing without His Word and the Holy Spirit

The Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) always operates coequally, coeternally, coexistent as one unit, but each member has a specific special function: the executive is the Father, the architect is the Son, and the contractor is the Holy Spirit.

The apostle John bears witness to this identification – the Logos as the Son of God and the Person of Christ

John uses “the Logos” six times as a designation of the Divine Person of Christ in the following Scriptures:

John 1:1, John 1:14; 1John 1:1; Revelation 19:13-16

John 1:1 describes the Logos’ distinct eternal existence, His divine intimate communion with the Godhead, His relation in the Godhead as well as His deity

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

John 1:14 describes the Logos’ incarnation –manifested openly and visibly

Joh 1:14 And the Word (Logos) became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1 John 1:1 depicts the Logos as the origin of life

1Jn 1:1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word (Logos) of Life

Revelation 19:13-16 reveals the Name and Title of Jesus Christ – The Logos of God – King of kings and Lord of lords

Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness, He judges and wages war.

Rev 19:12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.

Rev 19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word (Logos) of God.

Rev 19:14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

Rev 19:15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.

Rev 19:16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

By using the word “Logos” John describes the very being of Christ - “the Logos” is a Person – Jesus Christ Himself.

John 1:1-18 gives us some great insight and understanding in the application of “the Logos”:

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Joh 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

Joh 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of Godeven to those who believe in His name,

Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Joh 1:14 And the Word (Logos) became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Joh 1:15 John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.'"

Joh 1:16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for (instead of, in the place of) grace. (also “grace upon grace”)

Joh 1:17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

Joh 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God (many ancient authorities read "God only begotten"), who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

*Reader - I will now carefully take you through the aforementioned Scriptures

John 1:1-2 describe His distinct eternal existence, His divine intimate communion with the Godhead, His relation in the Godhead as well as His deity

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Quotation

“The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia” - ISBE- e-Sword has the following to say about John 1:1-2 – and more in particular of the relation of the Logos to God:

Relation of Logos to God:

Here John makes three distinct affirmations:

(i) “In the Beginning Was the Word.”

As in Genesis 1:1, so here, there is only implied that the Logos was existent when the world began to be. When as yet nothing was, the Logos was. Though the eternal pre-existence of the Word is not actually stated, it is implied.

(ii) “The Word Was With God.

Here His personal existence is more specifically defined. He stands distinct from, yet in eternal fellowship with, God - perpetual intercommunion. John would guard against the idea of mere self-contemplation on the one hand and entire independence on the other. It is union, not fusion.

(iii) “The Word Was God.”

He is not merely related eternally, but actually identical in essence with GodThe notion of inferiority is emphatically excluded and the true Deity of the Word affirmed. In these three propositions, we ascend from His eternal existence to His distinct personality and thence to His substantial Godhead. All that God is the Logos is. Identity, difference, communion are the three phases of the Divine relationship.

(End of quotation)

John 1:3 & 10 describe His creative power

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

All things came into being through the Logos (Jesus Christ – the Word)

The Logos is the organ or medium of the total creative activity of God.

(More on His creative power later on)

John 1:4-5 & 9 describe the Logos as the source of the intellectual, moral and spiritual life of man.

Joh 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Joh 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

(More on this later on)

In John 1:12-13 the Logos is intimately connected to mankind – by receiving Him we obtain the right to become children of God (we are born of God)

Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of Godeven to those who believe in His name,

Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Logos is the entire body of grace and truth by which the Word gives to men the power to become the sons of God.

John 1:14 describes His incarnation – the “Shekinah” glory manifested openly and visibly (“Shekinah” means “manifested glory”)

Joh 1:14 And the Word (Logos) became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father full of grace and truth.

In becoming man the Logos did not cease to be God. Though clothed in flesh, the Logos continued to be the self-manifesting God, and retained, the character of the Eternal Father thus revealing His Divine essence.

Jesus Christ as the Logos is the eternal expression of the divine intelligence and the disclosure of the divine essence of God – achieved fully in the incarnation.

John 1:14, 16-17 tell us of the profound outflow of the incarnated Logos – the Grace and the Truth were realized through Jesus Christ

Joh 1:14 And the Word (Logos) became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father full of grace and truth.

Joh 1:16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for (“grace instead of grace, in the place of grace”, or “grace upon grace”)

Joh 1:17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

The fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily and we have been made complete in Him

Col 1:19 For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,

Col 1:20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Col 2:9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,

Col 2:10 and in Him you have been made complete,

John 1:18 brings this identification of Logos – the Son of God – the personal manifestation of the whole deity to a dramatic conclusion Christ is the One who reveals God to the world. His office is to make God, the Father known.

Joh 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God (many ancient authorities read "God only begotten"), who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

Joh 1:18 No man has ever seen God at any time; the only unique Son, or the only begotten God, Who is in the bosom [in the intimate presence] of the Father, He has declared Him (rehearse, explained or unfold Him) [He has revealed Him and brought Him out where He can be seen; He has interpreted Him and He has made Him known]. (AMP)

Jesus Himself declared:

Joh 14:9 Jesus *said to him (Philip),.... He who has seen Me has seen the Father;

Joh 14:10 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in MeThe words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

Joh 14:11 "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me;

  1. THE LOGOS IS THE CREATIVE POWER OF GOD

Jesus Christ, the Logos, is the life-giving creative power of God

CREATION came into existence by and through the omnipresent LOGOS - JESUS CHRIST

Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3 & 10 give mutual support and clarity on the creation process:

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him [Word - Logos], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:10 He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, (AMP)

All things came into being through the Logos (Jesus Christ – the Word) – therefore we can say that the Logos is the organ or medium of the total creative activity of God.

God first created the heaven and the earth

Genesis 1:1:

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created (bara) the heaven and the earth.

The Hebrew word “bara” is used here as “created” and means: “to bring into being; to form out of nothing or out of the invisible”

In the beginning God just pulled everything out of Himself and brought it into eternal complete existence – through His Word (the Logos – God’s creative power).

He pulled the earth out of the invisibility of Himself, gave existence to it and hung it on nothing – on His command the earth stays in orbit.

Heb 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.

Job 26:7 "He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing.

Now God starts to fashion the world into a habitable place by speaking forth.

Genesis 1

Gen 1:3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

Gen 1:6 Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." Gen 1:7....... and it was so.

Gen 1:9 Then God said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.

Gen 1:11 Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so.

Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

Gen 1:15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth"; and it was so.

Gen 1:20 Then God said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens."

Gen 1:21 God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

Gen 1:24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind"; and it was so.

In all the aforementioned instances the moment “God said” - the Logos was at work – creating, forming, shaping and establishing

When God speaks, He creates and brings forth - What God says, comes into being and into existence!!

NB! God’s speaking is His action, for God’s speech is His “energy released” in any given situation.

The Word of God is not just something that we read and speak.

The Word (Logos) is an ever active, creating, doing, maintaining, sustaining, and intelligent expression of who God is.

It is practical, visible, tangible and understandable.

  1. LOGOS – THE SOURCE OF LIFE

Jesus Christ, the Logos, is the source of the intellectual, moral and spiritual life of man

    John 1:1, 4-5 & 9 describe this beautifully:

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word(Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God.

Joh 1:4 In Him (the Logos) was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Joh 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Joh 1:9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

Jesus made this wonderful declaration:

Joh 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

God shines in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of His glory to us

2Co 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus' sake.

2Co 4:6 For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Other Scriptures concerning Jesus as the Light:

Isa 9:2 The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them.

Isa 42:6 "I am the LORD, I have called You in righteousness, I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You, And I will appoint You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the nations,

Isa 42:7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the dungeon And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.

Isa 49:6 He says, ....I will also make You a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth."

Isa 60:1 "Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.

Isa 60:2 "For behold, darkness will cover the earth And deep darkness the peoples, But the LORD will rise upon you And His glory will appear upon you.

Isa 60:3 "Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

Mal 4:2 "But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.

The fulfilment of Isaiah 9:2

Mat 4:15 "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles--

Mat 4:16 "The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great light, and those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, upon them a light dawned."

Luk 1:76 "And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on before the Lord to prepare his ways;

Luk 1:78 Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,

Luk 1:79 to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace."

Luk 2:30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,

Luk 2:31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,

Luk 2:32 a Light of revelation to the gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel."

Act 13:47 "For so the Lord has commanded us, ' I have placed you as a Light for the gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the end of the earth.'"

Act 26:23 that the Christ was to suffer, and that by reason of His resurrection from the dead He would be the first to proclaim light both to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles."

John describes Jesus as the “Word (Logos) of Life” which was manifested to us (made openly known to us)

1Jn 1:1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life--

1Jn 1:2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us

Manifest means: To make openly known; to appear

God IS love and God IS light and He manifests both of these through Jesus Christ who is before all things and in whom all things hold together

Col 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

1Jn 1:1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word (Logos) of Life--

1Jn 1:2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us--

Joh 5:26 "For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

Jesus Christ as a life-giving Spirit came to give us life and abundance:

1Co 15:45 Thus it is written, The first man Adam became a living being (an individual personality); the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving Spirit [restoring the dead to life]. [Gen. 2:7.] (AMP)

Joh 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Rom 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

  1. JESUS CHRIST, THE INCARNATED LOGOS

Jesus Christ is the final and perfect revelation of God to men.

Besides Jesus Christ, God has nothing more to say to this world.

John 1:18 tells us that – the Son of God – Jesus Christ is the One who reveals God to the world. His office is to make God known.

Joh 1:18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God (or "God only begotten"), who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

(AMP)

John 1:14 describes His incarnation – the “Shekinah” glory manifested openly and visibly

Jesus Himself declared:

Joh 14:9 Jesus *said to him (Philip),.... He who has seen Me has seen the Father;

Joh 14:10 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in MeThe words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

Joh 14:11 "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me;

With regard to the Word becoming flesh I would like to take you to a wonderful event recorded in Judges 6 – the calling of Gideon

Jdg 6:1 Then the sons of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD gave them into the hands of Midian seven years.

Jdg 6:6 So Israel was brought very low because of Midian, and the sons of Israel cried to the LORD.

Jdg 6:7 Now it came about when the sons of Israel cried to the LORD on account of Midian,

Jdg 6:8 that the LORD sent a prophet to the sons of Israel, and he said to them,

Jdg 6:11 Then the angel of the LORD came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites.

Jdg 6:12 The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, "The LORD is with you, O valiant warrior."

Jdg 6:14 The LORD looked at him and said, "Go in this your strength and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?"

Gideon first argued with the Lord, but eventually, he conceded to the call of God resulting in the following awesome act of the Holy Spirit

Jdg 6:34 So the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon; and he blew a trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called together to follow him. (NASB)

Jdg 6:34 But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with Himself and took possession of him, and he blew a trumpet, and [ the clan of] Abiezer was gathered to him.(AMP)

Judges 6:34

The Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon

The Bible also records that the Spirit of the Lord came upon Othniel (Judges 3:10), Jephthah (Judges 11:29) and Samson (Judges 13:25; 14:6; 14:19) and as a result of this moving of the Spirit they were able to do extraordinary things. The Holy Spirit endued them with extraordinary wisdom, courage, and strength for the work which lay before them.

The phrase “the Spirit came over them” in the previous paragraph (with respect to Othniel, Jephtah and Samson) has the following meaning attached to it:

The Spirit came down upon them, filled them temporarily, and drove them to do things beyond their natural human abilities. The Spirit withdrew Himself from them the moment the specific assignment has been completed.

This was however not the case with Gideon:

A different Hebrew word is used in Judges 6:34 for the phrase “came upon” Gideon. The Amplified Bible gives us a more accurate translation:

“But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with Himself and took possession of him”

Another interpretation of this “The Holy Spirit clothed Himself with Gideon”

This act of the Holy Spirit perfectly ties up with what Jesus said in John 14:16-17

Joh 14:16 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;

Joh 14:17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

The Holy Spirit never permanently indwelled believers in the Old Testament times – the Spirit came over them empowering them for certain tasks and withdrew again.

In John 14 Jesus promised a permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit to believers

This act of the Holy Spirit also perfectly ties up with the fact that we have been clothed with Christ Jesus

Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Gal 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

We are in Christ and He is in us!

Coming back to Gideon (Judges 6:34):

“But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with Himself and took possession of him”

“The Holy Spirit clothed Himself with Gideon”

The Holy Spirit expressed Himself through Gideon in a mighty way. There was a more permanent indwelling and working of the Spirit in and through him than in other people

This reminds me of what Paul said in Corinthians.

1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

1Co 6:20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

Now back to “the Word became flesh”

In a similar way the Logos clothed Himself with Jesus Christ. The Logos took on flesh, the body of Jesus in order to become visible and to express Himself tangibly in the earth to recreate fallen mankind.

Jesus said (recorded in Hebrews 10:5)

Heb 10:5 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME;

The preparation of the body of Jesus is beautifully described in Luke 1 where the angel of the Lord visited Mary - The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;

Luk 1:30 The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favour with God.

Luk 1:31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Luk 1:32 "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

Luk 1:33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."

Luk 1:34 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?"

Luk 1:35 The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason, the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

Luk 1:37 For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfilment

The word “nothing” in Luke 1:37 includes the word “Rhema – uttered words” - meaning that God makes the impossible possible by speaking things into existence.

This whole process of the forthcoming of Jesus Christ is foretold in Psalm 2

Psa 2:6 "But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."

Psa 2:7 "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

Psa 2:8 'Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.

Heb 1:5 For to which of the angels did He ever say, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU"? And again, "I WILL BE A FATHER TO HIM AND HE SHALL BE A SON TO ME"?

Heb 1:6 And when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says, "AND LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM."

2Pe 1:17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased"--

Hebrews 1:1-3 declares that God speaks to us by Jesus Christ, His Son through whom He (God) made the worlds. God deals with us through Jesus Christ as the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word (RHEMA) of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

More scriptures where “the logos” refers to Christ as the final and perfect revelation of God to men

Luk 5:1 Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around Him and listening to the word of God(the Logos = Christ and His sayings), He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret;

Luk 8:11 Now the meaning of the parable (“parable of the sower”) is this: The seed is the Word of God (the Logos = Christ as the revelation of God). (AMP)

2Co 2:17 For we are not like many, peddling the word of God (the Logos = Christ as the revelation of God), but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

Act 10:36 "The word (the Logos = Christ) which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)—

Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word (the Logos = Christ) of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (NKJV)

Col 1:5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word(the Logos = Christ) of truth, the gospel

1Jn 1:1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word (the Logos = Christ) of Life--

1Jn 1:2 and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us--

The Word, who, being God, not only reveals but also imparts himself to us, and is formed in us

Jas 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Jas 1:18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

SECTION 3 – The result of the creative “logos”

The creative life-giving “logos” produces tremendous results

  1. In John 1:11-13 the Logos is intimately connected to mankind – by receiving Him we obtain the right to become children of God (we are born of God)

A brief exposition on John 1:11-13

“As many as” in Verse 12 denotes “individuals”, whereas “those who were His own” in Verse 11 signifies “the nation at large”.

The two verbs used in Verses 11 and 12 are substantially the same, but with the following difference:

The word “receive” used in Verse 11 should be more correctly translated as “accepted” because here is the emphasis is on “the will that consented (or refused) to receive”, whereas “receive” in verse 12 indicates “the possession gained by receiving”.

Thus the full meaning of “received in Verse 12 is: “As many as by accepting Him, received Him.”

“The right (power) to become” in Verse 12 means: “ not merely possibility or ability, but legitimate right derived from a competent source - the Word”

“To become children of God” (some translations read: “sons of God”, but “children” is the correct translation) in Verse 12

Children are brought forth and denote a relation based on community of nature, while Son, may indicate only adoption and heirship.

John never uses the word “sons” to describe the relation of believers to God, since he regards their position not as a result of adoption, but as a result of a new life.

Paul, on the other hand, regards the relation from the legal standpoint, as adoption, imparting a new dignity and relation as in Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:5 & 6

“Believe in His Name” in Verse 12

“His Name” expresses the sum of the qualities which mark the nature or character of Jesus. To believe in the name of Jesus Christ the Son of God, is to accept as true the revelation contained in that title and implies a spiritual and mystical union with Him.

The name of Jesus is the expression of the sum total of His divine Being. His name is the formula in which all His attributes and characteristics are summed up and is equivalent to his person. His name is never detached from His nature. When you believe in His name you profess to acknowledge and appropriate Jesus in all that He is and in all that He did.

John 20:31 gives confirmation:

Joh 20:31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

The Logos is the entire body of grace and truth by which the Word gives to men the power (ability) to become the sons of God. The Logos together with the Holy Spirit have the ability to turn a sinner into a child of God.

  1. John 1:16-17 tell us of the profound outflow of the incarnated Logos – the Grace and the Truth were realized through Jesus Christ

  1. When God wanted to create children for Himself, He does it through His creative ability “the Logos

The Logos became flesh (took on the body and person of Jesus Christ) for one reason – to recreate everything in and through Christ

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

2Co 5:18 But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [ received us into favour, brought us into harmony with Himself] (AMP)

Gal 6:15 For neither is circumcision [now] of any importance, nor uncircumcision, but [only] a new creation the result of a new birth and a new nature in Christ Jesus, the Messiah]. (a new creative act)

We have been born again (begotten, recreated, brought forth from God) by the Living Logos – God begetting children for Himself

1Pe 1:23 You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

(AMP)

1Pe 1:23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is ,through the living and enduring word (logos) of God.(which lives and abides forever AMP)

1Pe 1:24 For, "ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,

1Pe 1:25 BUT THE WORD (rhema) OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER." And this is the word (rhema) which was preached to you.

“Born again” means:

Comes from a word which means: to procreate or to bring forth,

To produce again, born anew

To be born from above, or becoming a qualitatively new creation or creature

We were brought forth by the word (logos) of truth

Jas 1:17 Every good gift (Gr: dosis = the act of giving) and every perfect gift (Gr: dorema = the thing given – i.e. Christ) is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Jas 1:18 Of His own will He BROUGHT US FORTH by the word (LOGOS) of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

Brought us forth: To breed forth; give birth to; produce;

Jesus Christ created in Himself one new man from the Jews and the Gentiles

Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands—

Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,

Eph 2:15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,

Eph 2:16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

The word (logos) of the cross is the saving power of God

1Co 1:18 For the word (LOGOS) of the cross is to them that are perishing foolishness; but unto us which are being saved it is the power of God. (RV)

We are His workmanship (God's own handiwork) recreated in Christ Jesus

Eph 2:10 For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. (AMP)

His Workmanship: Something made, a work, a product, a poem:

It denotes the result of work, what is produced as contrasted to the act of making, the doing itself and not that which is made.

He who does the making is the performer, doer or poet.

He is the poet – we are His poem – a visible expression of God’s deepest emotions

Created

Of God creating the worlds

To form, shape, i.e. to completely change or transform

To fabricate, (through the idea of the proprietorship of the manufacturer)

To create, produce from nothing

To create and form in a spiritual sense, regeneration or renewal

To furnish completely, to prepare for fitting together with others

The Word (Logos) of God has the ability to bring forth a multitude of disciples

Act 6:7 And the Word (LOGOS) of God was increasing. And the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was multiplying exceedingly; even a great crowd of the priests obeyed the faith. (MKJV)

  1. The word (logos) – preaching peace through Jesus Christ – uttered by Peter (rhema) became the saving power of God to the household of Cornelius

Act 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

Act 10:35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

Act 10:36 The word (LOGOS) which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—

Act 10:37 that word (RHEMA) you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:

Act 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Act 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words (RHEMA), the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

Act 10:45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,

  1. Receiving the implanted word (logos) results in the saving of our souls

Jas 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word (LOGOS)which is able to save your souls.

Jas 1:22 But be doers of the word (LOGOS), and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Jas 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word (LOGOS) and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;

Jas 1:24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Jas 1:25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

  1. The Word (Logos) of God, Who endures forever is alive and full of power – it penetrates where no man can and produces “rest” in us

Heb 4:11 Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [ into which those in the wilderness fell].

Heb 4:12 For the Word (LOGOS) that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

1Pe 1:24 For, "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. the grass withers, and the flower falls off,

1Pe 1:25 but the Word of the Lord endures forever." And this is the word which was preached to you.

  1. Nothing is concealed from God – His living Logos is ever involved in our everyday walk of life – always ready to perform on our behalf

Heb 4:13 And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenceless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.(LOGOS)

The above Scripture is not written in a negative sense – the Bible is not saying here that our sins and faults are exposed before God

No our sins have been taken away through the blood of Jesus and God remembers our sins no more

The Holy Spirit is telling us here that my whole life – present and future – is open before God and that every situation that I might be facing is defenceless in the presence of the Logos – God’s creative and sustaining power.

Everything will work out for my good – God through His Word will see to it.

  1. God always confirms His word (Logos) with signs and wonders

Mar 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word (LOGOS) through the accompanying signs. Amen.

  2. The Word (Logos) of God as seed always produces results – thirty, sixty and hundred fold

Luk 8:11 Now the meaning of the parable is this: The seed is the Word (LOGOS) of God. (AMP) (Producing thirty, sixty and hundred fold)

Hundred fold: a complete productiveness; an unceasing fruitfulness

  3. The word (logos) of truth, the gospel of salvation is sealed with the Holy Spirit as the guarantee of our inheritance

Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word (LOGOS) of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Eph 1:14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

  1. By staying in His word (Logos) the love of God is being perfected (brought to maturity )

1Jn 2:4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1Jn 2:5 But whoever keeps His word (LOGOS), truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

  1. This mighty powerful “Logos” can be nullified, choked or stolen

  • The Logos nullified

Jesus told the religious order of the day that they invalidate the Logos through their tradition

Mar 7:13 Thus you are nullifying and making void and of no effect [the authority of] the Word (LOGOS) of God through your tradition, which you [in turn] hand on. And many things of this kind you are doing. (AMP)

According to Galatians 5:1-6 it is possible to mingle grace with the law and by doing that we sever ourselves from Christ and fall from grace, thus rendering ourselves ineffective

Gal 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Gal 5:2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you.

Gal 5:3 And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law.

Gal 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Gal 5:5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.

Gal 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

In the same manner, we can make nil and void this powerful creative Logos – by mingling the Logos with the law, traditions and customs.

  • The Logos choked and stolen

Jesus made a significant statement about the work of Satan in John 10:10. He portrays Satan as a thief who came to steal, kill and destroy

Joh 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

    Life is in the Logos

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (the Logos), and the Word (the Logos) was with God, and the Word (the Logos) was God.

Joh 1:4 In Him (the Logos) was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Satan is after the Word of God in our lives – always trying to render it powerless.

That was his strategy right from the beginning when he sowed doubt in Eve’s heart by asking her: “Has God indeed said?” (Genesis 3:1)

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"

Jesus elaborates on this strategy of Satan in the parable of the sower

    (Recorded in Matthew 13:1-9; 18-23; Mark 4:1-9; 13-20 and Luke 8:5-8; 11-15)

Jesus explained the parable of the sower:

Luk 8:11 "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word (Logos) of God.

Luk 8:12 Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their heartslest they should believe and be saved.

Luk 8:13 But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

Luk 8:14 Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

How to overcome the above strategies of Satan

It is therefore absolutely imperative to have my mindset changed to accommodate the fullness of the Word – the Logos – Christ Jesus

1Co 2:16 ..But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. [ Isa. 40:13.]

Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Col 3:16 Let the word (Logos) of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another

Jas 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word (Logos), which is able to save your souls.

Jas 1:22 But be doers of the word (Logos), and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

No wonder the psalmist made this profound statement:

Psa 119:103 How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psa 119:104 From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.

Psa 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

SECTION 4 –More “logos” related activities

Jesus Christ, the incarnated Logos is the complete and total expression of the love of God towards us

From this Divine Person of the Logos, Jesus Christ, flows every other Logos related activity i.e. creation, revelation, doctrine, working, healing, gospel, restoration, grace, truth, etc.

Logos denotes:

"The expression of thought"--not merely naming an object —

We will now have a look at more Scriptures where “Logos as the expression of thought” is used :

"The expression of thought" as embodying a conception or idea :

Luk 7:7 for this reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

1Co 14:9 So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.

1Co 14:19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

"The expression of thought" as a saying or statement:

(1) By God,

Rom 9:28 For the Lord will execute his word on the earth, thoroughly and quickly."

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

(2) By Christ,

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Joh 2:22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

Joh 4:41 And many more believed because of His own word.

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

Joh 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

The expression of thought" as a direct revelation :

Sometimes, the phrase "the word of the Lord," i.e., the revealed will of God is used of a direct revelation given by Christ, as in

1Th 4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

"The expression of thought" as of the gospel:

In this respect it is the message from the Lord, delivered with His authority and made effective by His power.

Act 8:25 So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

Act 13:49 And the word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region.

Act 15:35 But Paul and Barnabas stayed in Antioch, teaching and preaching with many others also, the word of the Lord.

Act 16:32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house.

Act 19:10 This took place for two years, so that all who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.

1Th 1:8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you,

2Th 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you;

Sometimes “logos” is used as the sum of God’s utterances:

Mar 7:13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered

Joh 10:35 "If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),

Rev 1:2 who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw.

Rev 1:9 I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

Sometimes “logos” is used as discourse, speech or of instruction:

Act 2:40 And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"

1Co 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

1Co 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

2Co 1:18 But as God is faithful, our word to you is not yes and no.

1Th 1:5 for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

2Th 2:15 So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

Other instances relating to the gospel where a specific doctrine or truth is referred to:

Act 13:26 "Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.

Act 14:3 Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands.

Act 15:7 After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe.

1Co 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

2Co 2:17 For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

2Co 4:1 Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart,

2Co 4:2 but we have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

2Co 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

2Co 5:18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,

2Co 5:19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

2Co 6:7 in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and the left,

Gal 6:6 The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him.

Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Php 2:16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

Col 1:5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel

Heb 5:13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

Mat 13:20 "The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

2Ti 1:13 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

2Ti 1:14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.

1Jn 2:7 Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard.

1Jn 2:8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining.

SECTION 5 – Sound Doctrine – an outflow of the Living Logos – Jesus Christ

First some Scriptures where the word “doctrine” appear

Doctrine used in relation to “Logos”

1Ti 4:6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

Tit 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

Other places where the word doctrine is used

Eph 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

Eph 4:15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

1Ti 6:1 All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honour so that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against.

1Ti 6:3 If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness,

1Ti 6:4 he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,

1Ti 6:5 and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain.

2Ti 4:2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

2Ti 4:4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Tit 2:9 Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

Tit 2:10 not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

Tit 2:12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,

Tit 2:13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,

Tit 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Meaning of the word “doctrine”

Denotes both the act of teaching and that which is taught – but more specifically used exclusively - whatever is taught

Also the result of teaching

The New Testament uses two terms for teaching:

didachḗ (Greek Strong 1322), and didaskalía (Greek Strong 1319)

Generally speaking:

Didache ̄ ́ means the substance of teaching (that which is taught) and also stresses the authority of the teacher while didaskalía stresses the act of teaching.

A distinction must be made between the process of teaching and the subject matter of teaching (that which is taught). The English word "teaching" may mean either the act of imparting truth or the body of truth imparted. Sometimes the Biblical usage includes both meanings.

Doctrine as the act, art or manner of teaching didaskalı́a = “the act of teaching”

1Ti 4:13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching.

1Ti 4:16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.

1Ti 5:17 The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honour, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.

Tit 2:7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,

Rom 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

2Ti 3:10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,

2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

2Ti 3:17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Doctrine as “the thing taught”:

Can come from men and can be perverted

Mat 15:7 "You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you:

Mat 15:8 'This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me.

Mat 15:9 'But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.'"

Mar 7:7 'But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.'

Mar 7:8 "Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men."

Mar 7:9 He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.

Eph 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

Col 2:20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as,

Col 2:21 "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!"

Col 2:22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)-- in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?

1Ti 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

1Ti 4:2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,

Isa 29:13 Then the Lord said, "Because this people draw near with their words And honour Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,

Can come from God meaning divine teaching

1Ti 1:9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers

1Ti 1:10 and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,

1Ti 4:6 In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

2Ti 3:10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

2Ti 4:4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Tit 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

Tit 2:1 But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.

Tit 2:9 Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,

Tit 2:10 not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.

The following interesting remarks were taken from “The Complete Word Study Dictionary” – E-Sword

Sound doctrine:

G1319 - didaskalía; gen. didaskalías, fem. noun from didásko ̄ (G1321), to teach.

Teaching or instruction as spoken of:

(VI) Prophecy was a specialized form of teaching. The differences between the two apparently lay in the fact that while prophecy was the utterance of a revelation received directly from God, teaching was the utterance of that which one had gained by thought and reflection.

(X) Individuals instructed were to contribute toward the support of their teacher (Gal_6:6). In later times many churches came to have regular schools for the teaching of individuals, that of Alexandria being especially famous.

The teaching was mostly oral. As time progressed, however, the epistles were also used for teaching. The teaching consisted of mainly a recital of the facts concerning the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Rom_1:3 f.; 1Co_15:1 ff.; Gal_4:4 f.).

Quoting the afore-mentioned Scriptures:

(Gal_6:6).

Gal 6:6 Let him who receives instruction in the Word [of God] share all good things with his teacher [contributing to his support].(AMP)

(Rom_1:3 f.; 1Co_15:1 ff.; Gal_4:4 f.).

Rom 1:3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

Rom 1:4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.

1Co 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,

1Co 15:2 by which also you are saved,

Gal 4:4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

Gal 4:5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

(XII) The Christian teacher taught "in the name of Jesus" (Act_4:18; Act_5:28) 1.

He used the doctrines of the Old Testament inasmuch as they bore witness of Christ.

He repeated the teaching given by Christ with the formula "remember the words of the Lord Jesus" (Act_20:35) 2.

He continued "in the apostles' doctrine" (Act_2:423, and as occasion arose he applied the principles underlying the teaching of Jesus and relating to the doctrinal and ethical problems that arose within the church. In the later epistles, a conservative tendency is noticeable.

The content of Christian teaching came to be fixed and authoritative. It was called "the teaching" (1Ti_6:12Jn_1:9 [cf. Rev_22:18 f.]) 4 or "sound doctrine" (2Ti_4:3)5. Paul warns the Romans against departing from "the doctrine which ye learned" (Rom_16:17)6. Later Timothy is called a good minister because he had been "nourished up in the words of faith, and of good doctrine" ( 1Ti_4:67, and in which he continued.

The content of the teaching may be inferred from the fact that it is described in 1Co_12:8 8 as the"word of wisdom" and as the "word of knowledge." The word of wisdom was an acquaintance with "God's wisdom" (1Co_1:21)9or the divine plan of redemption which Paul calls elsewhere "the mystery of God" (Col_2:210. The knowledge (gno ̄ ́sis [G1108]) came by intuition and consisted of insight into truth through spiritual illumination but must not be taken as apokálupsis (G602 ), revelation. Wisdom enabled the teacher to explain the truth, and knowledge as a divine gift qualified him to interpret it.

Christ's Teaching compared with those of the Pharisees:

In contrast with the doctrines of the Pharisees, which were a fairly compact and definite body of teaching, a fixed tradition handed down from one generation to another, the teaching of Jesus was unconventional and occasional, discursive and unsystematic. It is very important to note that Jesus’ teachings derived its power from His personality, character and works and not from principles, tradition or any other form of discipline.

Mat 7:28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching;

Mat 7:29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Mat 22:33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.

Mar 1:22 They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Mar 1:27 They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him."

Luk 4:32 and they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.

*Reader - Sound doctrine is all about Our Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work!!–

Sound doctrine flows from the incarnated “Logos”

The Logos became flesh and took on the body of Jesus Christ!

The fullness of the Godhead (the totality of the personality of God) dwells in Him bodily!

The fullness of the Godhead is embodied in Christ as the Logos from whom all doctrine flows

Sound doctrine is about Christ as a Person and the fullness and completeness of His finished work.

Christ is the Author and Finisher of faith:

Heb 12:2 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of faith [ giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. (AMP)

Heb 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We preach Him (as a Person) and not about Him:

1Co 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,

1Co 2:1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.

1Co 2:2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

Col 1:28 Him we preach and proclaim, warning and admonishing everyone and instructing everyone in all wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God), that we may present every person mature (full-grown, fully initiated, complete, and perfect) in Christ (the Anointed One). (AMP)

The main purpose in equipping the body of Christ is to take every person to the full knowledge and understanding of who Christ is

Eph 4:11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,

Eph 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;

Eph 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Eph 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

Eph 4:15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

Eph 4:16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

We teach the doctrine of Christ, but the real Teacher is the Holy Spirit who will always reveal Christ in His fullness

Jesus said the following about the Holy Spirit in this regard:

Joh 14:16 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter), that He may be with you forever;

Joh 14:17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

Joh 14:18 "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Joh 14:26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

Joh 15:26 "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,

Joh 16:7 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

Joh 16:8 "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

Joh 16:12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

Joh 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Joh 16:14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

Joh 16:15 "All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.

Joh 16:14 "He will glorify Me

Glorify means to unveil who Jesus is and everything about Him

Paul is saying the following with regard to the work of the Holy Spirit in revealing Christ Jesus to us:

1Co 2:7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory;

1Co 2:8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;

1Co 2:9 but just as it is written, "things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love him."

1Co 2:10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

1Co 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.

1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God,

1Co 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

1Co 12:3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

Eph 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

Doctrine is not a “Statement of Faith” – or a declaration of what I believe or how I interpret the Scriptures concerning certain subjects

Doctrine is not teachings about Christ – No! Doctrine is preaching Christ and everything flowing from His finished work.

Sound doctrine is Christ revealed in His fullness and in all aspects of His finished work – a doctrine that will change lives forever!

SECTION 6 – Rhema

Rhema:

Rhema (G4487) denotes "that which is spoken, what is uttered in speech or writing";

Logos is reasoned speech, Rhema, an utterance,

Rhema is used in the singular, “a word” in the following Scriptures

Matthew 12:36; Matthew 27:14; 2Corinthians 12:4; 2Corinthians 13:1; and Hebrews 12:19

Rhema is used in the plural, “speech, discourse” in the following Scriptures

John 3:34; John 8:20; Acts 2:14; Acts 6:11, Acts 6:13; Acts 11:14; Acts 13:42; Acts 26:25; Romans 10:18; 2Peter 3:2 and Jude 1:17;

Joh 3:34 "For He whom God has sent speaks the words (rhema) of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.

Joh 8:20 These words (rhema) He spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.

Act 11:13 "And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, 'Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here;

Act 11:14 and he will speak words (rhema) to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.'

Act 11:15 "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning.

Act 13:42 As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people kept begging that these things (rhema) might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.

2Pe 3:2 that you should remember the words (rhema) spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.

Jud 1:17 But you, beloved, ought to remember the words (rhema) that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Rhema is used of “the gospel” in the following Scriptures

Acts 10:37; Romans 10:8 (twice); Romans 10:17; Romans 10:18 and 1Peter 1:25 (twice);

Rom 10:8 But what does it say? "The word (rhema) is near you, in your mouth and in your heart"--that is, the word (rhema) of faith which we are preaching,

Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word (rhema) of Christ. [i.e., the "word (rhema) " which preaches Christ]

Rom 10:18 But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have; "Their voice has gone out into all the earth, and their words (rhema) to the ends of the world."

1Pe 1:24 For, "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. the grass withers, and the flower falls off,

1Pe 1:25 But the word (rhema) of the Lord endures forever." And this is the word (rhema) which was preached to you.

[Isa 40:7 The grass withers, the flower fades, Because the breath of the LORD blows upon it; Surely the people are grass.

Isa 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever."

Word of God: It signified spoken words or speech; a command or royal decree.]

Rhema is used of “a statement, command or instruction” in the following Scriptures

Matthew 26:75; Luke 1:37, Luke 1:38; Acts 11:16 and Hebrews 11:3.

Mat 26:75 And Peter remembered the word (rhema) which Jesus had said, "Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.

Luk 1:37 "For nothing (rhema) will be impossible with God." (NASB)

Luk 1:37 For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word (rhema) from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment. (AMP)

Luk 1:37 For no word (rhema) from God shall be void of power. (RV)

Luk 1:38 And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word (rhema)." And the angel departed from her.

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word (rhema) of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible.

SECTION 7 – Rhema: The medium of every external act of God

This is displayed in the physical and spiritual creations

The Logos and Rhema is Spirit, life and light:

Joh 1:4 In Him (the Logos) was lifeand the life was the Light of men.

Joh 6:63 "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I (Jesus) have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

God created the world through the “Logos” and is upholding all created things by the “rhema” of His power:

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and UPHOLDING ALL THINGS by the word (RHEMA) of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Heb 1:4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

“Upholding” is written in the Perfect tense, describing an action, or more accurately a process, that took place in the past, the results of which have continued to the present indicating that Christ is continuously (an action that started long ago) upholding ALL things.

And “ALL things” means “ALL things” – that includes even the smallest or most minute thing – He takes care of everything!!

In Hebrews 1:3 “upholding” refers to Christ as the preserver of the universe and the One that is in charge of all things in the universe. He is continuously governing, directing, driving, maintaining, developing and sustaining all things by the word (rhema) flowing forth from His power (His ability and efficiency)

Whereas “logos” is God’s life-giving creative power ever and continuously flowing forth from Him - “rhema” is that dynamic power flowing from the “logos” (Jesus Christ) upholding, maintaining, developing and sustaining all things.

Hebrews 11:3 our world is framed by the Word (rhema) of God:

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word (RHEMA) of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Worlds:

Also my world; my current situation and circumstances; what God has destined, purposed, planned and measured out for me; my future, purpose and destiny; my environment; my whole life

Framed:

To arrange; to set in order; equip; adjust; make fully ready; complete what is lacking; repair; prepare; restore; heal; complete thoroughly; mend; make perfect.

Word of God:

THE “RHEMA” WORD

We have a God given right and sanctioning to speak and to do the Word:

Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a NEW CREATION. (A new creative act).

We are God’s representatives on earth with a mandate to act on His behalf. For this reason, He put some of His “creative” and “upholding” abilities inside of us.

Here are two more Scriptures where the effective use of “Rhema” is stated:

Romans 10 – verbal confession resulting in salvation

Rom 10:8 But what does it say? "THE WORD (“Rhema”) IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word(“Rhema”) of faith which we are preaching,

Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Salvation means: Releasing, deliverance, liberation, rescuing, prosperity, material and spiritual deliverance.

Ephesians 6 – the Sword of the Spirit

Eph 6:17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word (“Rhema”) of God.

The very moment I declare or speak the Rhema – it becomes a sword in the hands of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to create in you a “rhema” word designed to address your specific situation.

Let us boldly move and act according to His Likeness by speaking forth the creative word of God.

SECTION 8 – Flowing in the Logos & Rhema

Now that we have a better understanding of the dynamics of the Logos and the Rhema it is imperative that we should also learn to flow effectively in it.

After all, we have been created according to God’s likeness, meaning that we are wired by God to operate like He operates – in and by His word.

In this regard, I would refer you to the First Dispensation Teaching “Created in His image to function in His Likeness” where the concept “Likeness” is covered extensively.

Just a reminder to get us going:

Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

Likeness: The ability to operate in the earthly realm as God operates

Hebrew word for likeness is “demuth” meaning:

Representation; resemblance; model; shape; similitude; pattern; something similar

The word “likeness” comes from a verb meaning: to be like; to compare; to resemble; to plan; to think; to form ideas and to implement them; to function in a similar way.

We are thus God’s representatives on earth: to plan, to think and to operate on the earth as He operates.

His “IMAGE” is His Spirit part in us which contains our character, talents, traits, abilities etc. and this is expressed practically and tangibly in the earth by His “LIKENESS” – to represent Him in planning, thinking, operating and executing (speaking and doing).

God’s speaking is God’s action and way of working. God does nothing without His Word. God’s speech is God’s energy released and God’s energy released is the driving force behind the implementation of His word.

This is the way God operates – by His Word – speaking forth

God’s speaking is His action, for God’s speech is His “energy released”.

God is Spirit and He functions by and through His word. (Logos & Rhema)

This has the awesome implication of being created in His “image” and according to His “likeness”

We are also “spirit” and function by word (logos and rhema)!! We are spirit and word

SECTION 8(A) - How the Godhead operates

A few Scriptures to re-iterate how the Godhead operates – by the Word

All things came into being through the Logos (Jesus Christ – the Word) –

The Logos is the organ or medium of the total creative activity of God.

(NASB)

Job 26:7 "He stretches out the north over empty space And hangs the earth on nothing.

After the heaven and the earth were created God fashioned the world into a habitable place by speaking forth.

Gen 1

Gen 1:14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word (RHEMA) of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible. (AMP)

With God nothing is impossible.

The birth of Jesus is announced and Mary is questioning the angel and the angel answers

Luk 1:35 Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud ]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God.

Here God is creating a body for the Logos (the Word) to enable the Logos to operate effectively in the earth

Luk 1:37 For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfilment. (AMP)

The word “nothing” includes the word “Rhema” meaning that, that which is humanly impossible is made possible by the word (Rhema) of God.

Everything was created (came into being) by His Word (the LOGOS) and everything that was created is upheld by His Word (RHEMA)

Hebrews 1:3

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person

The first Adam, a living soul, was made in the IMAGE and LIKENESS of God;

The last Adam, Jesus Christ – a life-giving Spirit – had to be also in the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person.

Christ as “the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of His person”, is “upholding all things by the word (Rhema) of His power”

Where “logos” is God’s life-giving creative power ever and continuously flowing forth from Him - “rhema” is that dynamic power flowing from the “logos” (Jesus Christ) upholding, maintaining, developing and sustaining all things.

A few more Scriptures to confirm how everything was brought into existence:

1Co 8:6 Yet for us there is [only] one God, the FatherWho is the Source of all things and for Whom we [ have life], and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through and by Whom are all things and through and by Whom we [ourselves exist]. (AMP)

Col 1:15 He (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.

Col 1:16 For by Him all things were createdboth in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him.

Col 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Psa 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host.

God calls into being that which does not exist (His promise of a son to Abraham)

Rom 4:17 (as it is written, "A father of many nations have I made you") in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist. (NASB)

Rom 4:17 As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations. [He was appointed our father] in the sight of God in Whom he believed, Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed. [Gen. 17:5.] (AMP)

Jesus cast out demons by word.

Mat 8:16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill.

Jesus set the perfect example of how to release the creative Word, when He raised Lazarus from the dead.

Joh 11:39 Jesus *said, "Remove the stone." Martha, the sister of the deceased, *said to Him, "Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days."

Joh 11:40 Jesus *said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?"

Joh 11:41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

Joh 11:42 " I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me."

Joh 11:43 When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth."

Joh 11:44 The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus *said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

Note the order that Jesus followed:

He said: “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me” "I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me."

This action of Christ is very significant because the word “heard” means:

“To hear effectually so as to perform or grant what is spoken

(This is like a normal hearing where the judge acts upon what you say)

Jesus first thanked His Father (for the sake of the people around Him, so that we can learn from His example how to effectively release the powerful Word in prayer) and then He spoke the Word

The moment He spoke the word: "Lazarus, come forth", the Heavenly Father performed and granted that which was spoken and He raised Lazarus from the dead.

God will only act upon what is spoken. The lesson that we learn from this is that we can thank God for hearing our prayers, but He will only act upon what we declare or speak.

So, do not keep quiet, but speak up!

This is confirmed by John:

1Jn 5:14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

1Jn 5:15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

SECTION 8(B) – Functioning effectively as God does

We can and should operate effectively in the same power and authority of the word as what God does

After all, we have been created according to God’s likeness, meaning that we are wired to operate like God operates – in and by His word.

  1. Very important to understand: we are co-workers with God:

    1 Corinthians 3:9

    (AMP) For we are fellow workmen (joint promoters, labourers together) with and for God;

(BBE) For we are workers with God:

(KJV) For we are labourers together with God:

    (NASB) For we are God's fellow workers;

To be “labourers together with, co-workers, fellow workers” means this:

I am a companion (comrade) in labour with God – in His action, work and conduct – because I am in union with Him and became one with Him in Christ.

There is partnership, companionship, association and resemblance between me and God and as a result of this, I can take into possession, implement His Word and be instrumental in His hands.

I can act on His behalf.

Co-workers: What He speaks in the heavens, we speak and execute on the earth.

The logos and rhema desire to express themselves through us in a wonderfully creative and sustaining way! Let us open up ourselves to the burning desire of the Word!

  2. Jesus laid down a mighty and wonderful way for us to follow:

Mat 6:9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

Mat 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  3. By faith we frame the world around us through the Rhema:

Hebrews 11:3 (This is truly amazing)

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed (fashioned, put in order, and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word (RHEMA) of God, so that what we see was not made out of things which are visible. (AMP)

    Worlds:

Also my world, my current situation and circumstances

What God has destined, purposed, planned and measured out for me, my future, purpose and destiny; my environment; my whole life

    Framed:

To arrange, to set in order, equip, adjust, make fully ready, complete what is lacking, repair, prepare, restore, heal, complete thoroughly, mend, make perfect.

Word of God: The “rhema” word.

Because I have the ability to operate like God operates, I have the ability to frame my world by the RHEMA word of God in the name of Jesus Christ and by the leading of the Holy Spirit.

  4. Jesus promised that we will do the works that He did and even greater works:

    John 14:10-14

Joh 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority, but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.

Joh 14:11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

Joh 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

  5. Asking produces tremendous results:

Joh 14:13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Joh 14:14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

The word “ASK” here has the meaning of:

To demand (not in arrogance, but by someone who knows his/her legal blood-bought privileges and rights in Jesus Christ); insist on being helped; to claim (as in an insurance claim)

Not the asking of an inferior party to a superior party, but that of a person who knows and understands “righteousness – right standing with God”.

2Co 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Asking is to act without any sin consciousness and feelings of guilt in approaching God’s throne with boldness – knowing that you will find grace to help in time of need.

Asking is righteousness in practical action

Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Heb 4:16 Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Amplified Bible translation of Hebrews 4:16

Heb 4:16 Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace ( the throne of God's unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].

This corresponds with God’s declaration about His Son in Psalm 2:

Psa 2:7 "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

Psa 2:8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.

The result of bearing fruit is that whatever we ask will be done for us – God the Father is glorified by it

Joh 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Joh 15:8 "My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.

Joh 15:16 "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

Let us ask and declare in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God – it produces tremendous results

Php 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

Php 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

Php 2:11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (NKJV)

Mar 16:17 "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;

Mar 16:18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Practical application of the aforementioned:

Whenever I speak, ask or declare in the Name of Jesus Christ I act on His behalf and it is as if Jesus Himself declares it – He is only using me by the Holy Spirit as a channel to operate through!

It is the very same situation if I would act on behalf of an earthly king who gave me authority to speak on his behalf. The moment I act in this delegated authority it would be as if the king himself is speaking.

Jesus said

Mat 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Mat 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

Mat 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

  1. We do not approach God with a beggar mentality – No! No! – We are a kingdom and priests!

Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood--

Rev 1:6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father--to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Rev 5:9 And they *sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

Rev 5:10 "You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth."

Each member of this true kingdom is a priest unto God, with direct access to Him at all times.

  1. My life is directed and formed by speaking and doing (executing and implementing) the word of God:

    Luke 4:4

Luk 4:4 And Jesus replied to him, It is written, Man shall not live and be sustained by (on) bread alone but by every word and expression (rhema) of God.[Deut. 8:3.] (AMP)

    Romans 10:6-17

Rom 10:6 But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: "DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down),

Rom 10:7 or 'WHO WILL DESCEND INTO THE ABYSS?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)."

Rom 10:8 But what does it say? "THE WORD (RHEMA) IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,

Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."

Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

Rom 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word (RHEMA) of Christ.

Rom 10:9 ……….you will be saved. (sozo)

Rom 10:10 ………..confession is made unto salvation(soteria)

Save (sozo) and salvation (soteria) – the amazing results obtained from confessing, speaking, hearing and believing – means:

To rescue from peril; to protect; to keep alive; to save; to deliver; make whole; preserve safe from danger, loss or destruction.

To heal; to restore to health

Salvation with regard to:

  1. Material and temporal deliverance from danger, suffering, sickness, etc

  2. The spiritual and eternal salvation granted immediately by God to those who believe in Christ.

  3. The present experience of God’s power to deliver from the bondage of sin

Freedom from sin as a present power

  4. All the blessings inclusively bestowed by God on men in Christ.

2Co 4:13 But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I BELIEVED, THEREFORE I SPOKE," we also believe, therefore we also speak,

  1. The parable of the sower teaches us to sow the seed – the Word of God:

Mat 13:3 And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, "Behold, the sower went out to sow;

Mat 13:4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.

Mat 13:5 "Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil.

Mat 13:6 "But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

Mat 13:7 "Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.

Mat 13:8 "And others fell on the good soil and *yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.

Jesus said it is absolutely important that we must understand this parable – otherwise, we will not be able to understand all the other parables.

Mar 4:13 And He *said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables?

The seed is the Word (not money or material things) and this seed is tremendously productive:

Mar 4:14 "The sower sows the word (the Logos - Christ as the final and perfect revelation of God to men)

Luk 8:11 "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God (the Logos - Christ as the final and perfect revelation of God to men)

Mat 13:23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty."

Mar 4:20 "And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."

Luk 8:15 "But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.

Hundredfold: a complete productiveness.

Constantly sow the seed (The Word - the Logos - Christ as the final and perfect revelation of God to men) in your life, in every situation, in the lives and circumstances of other people, in your future and a harvest will be produced!

Get knowledge, insight and understanding of the full and complete work of Christ – convey it to others – and everyone will bear fruit.

Seed has the inherent ability to produce fruit. The same with the Word of God (the logos and rhema) – it has got inherent power and ability to create and produce – 30, 60 or 100 fold.

My responsibility is to ensure the seed is not contaminated – otherwise, it will not produce a healthy harvest. Do not mingle the Word of Grace and Truth with the Law – you will render this powerful Word ineffective.

We are called to glorify God by bearing fruit – only seed can produce fruit – the seed is the Word (Logos – Christ)

Joh 15:1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

Joh 15:2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.

Joh 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

Joh 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Allow the word of Christ (the fullness of the finished work of Christ) to dwell richly in you – God desires to express Himself through us by the logos and rhema

Col 3:16 Let the word (logos) of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another

  1. God’s solution for the worst case scenario – Prophesy (speak) to the situation)

Eze 37:1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones.

Eze 37:2 He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry.

Eze 37:3 He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" And I answered, "O Lord GOD, You know."

Eze 37:4 Again He said to me, "Prophesy over these bones and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.'

Eze 37:5 "Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones, 'Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life.

Eze 37:6 'I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the LORD.'"

Eze 37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.

Eze 37:8 And I looked, and behold, sinews were on them, and flesh grew and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them.

Eze 37:9 Then He said to me, "Prophecy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life."'"

Eze 37:10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

Eze 37:11 Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.'

God told Ezekiel:

Say precisely what I tell you to say! - Now that is co-working with God!

God gave Ezekiel a unique word to speak to this specific situation. In any given situation ask the Holy Spirit to give you a custom-made word for your unique circumstances – then speak it boldly and experience the hand of God moving on your behalf!

Prophetic speaking accomplishes and gives birth to things.

It gives life, tangibility and visibility to potential and possibilities.

New Testament prophetic versus Old Testament prophetic

According to Hebrews 1:1, the Old Testament prophets only heard from God from time to time and spoke what they heard.

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power,

God now speaks through His Son (the Word – the Logos and Rhema)

There is a constant stream of knowledge, understanding and wisdom flowing from Jesus Christ into this world through us.

John says something very profound about this constant stream of fullness flowing from Christ – the Anointed One with the Anointing

1Jn 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Jesus Christ is the Anointed One with the anointing (i.e. the fullness of the Godhead) is flowing from Him – His love, grace, mercy

Col 2:9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,

Col 2:10 and in Him you have been made complete, (NASB)

Every prophetic utterance is a Rhema designed by the Holy Spirit to speak life, edification, exhortation and consolation (the prophetic in the New Testament was never intended to expose sin and condemn people)

1Co 14:3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.

1Co 14:4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.

1Co 14:31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;

There is a constant stream of the prophetic flowing from Jesus Christ (the Word and the Anointed One) and we should tap into it so that all may learn and all may be exhorted and edified.

Note:

I will extensively elaborate on the subjects of “The Anointing” and ‘The Prophetic” in two separate Teachings

  1. Elijah’s prayer to control nature :

The prayer of Elijah is of such great importance that it is quoted in the New

Testament

Jas 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

(The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working] (AMP)

Jas 5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

Jas 5:18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

Elijah’s earnest prayer: he just spoke one sentence:

1Ki 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word."

The significance of Elijah’s prayer is that he obtained these profound results while operating under the Law –

I believe that under grace we should experience exceedingly greater things!!

2Co 3:7 Now if the dispensation of death engraved in letters on stone [the ministration of the Law], was inaugurated with such glory and splendour that the Israelites were not able to look steadily at the face of Moses because of its brilliance, [a glory] that was to fade and pass away, [Exod. 34:29-35.]

2Co 3:8 Why should not the dispensation of the Spirit [this spiritual ministry whose task it is to cause men to obtain and be governed by the Holy Spiritbe attended with much greater and more splendid glory?

2Co 3:9 For if the service that condemns [the ministration of doomhad glory, how infinitely more abounding in splendour and glory must be the service that makes righteous [ the ministry that produces and fosters righteous living and right standing with God]!

2Co 3:12 Since we have such [glorious] hope (such joyful and confident expectation), we speak very freely and openly and fearlessly. (AMP)

I want to add: we speak very freely and openly and fearlessly because we know that it will produce results beyond our greatest expectations

Eph 3:20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [ infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]--

Eph 3:21 To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it). (AMP)

  1. The Bible highlights the importance of guarding our hearts and being careful of our speech

Pro 4:23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. (AMP)

Pro 18:20 A man's [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].

Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life ]. [Matt. 12:37.] (AMP)

Mat 15:10 After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, "Hear and understand.

Mat 15:11 " It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."

Mat 12:33 "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.

Mat 12:34 "You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

Mat 12:35 " The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.

Mat 12:36 "But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.

Mat 12:37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words, you will be condemned."

Jas 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.

Jas 3:4 Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires.

Jas 3:5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!

Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.

Jas 3:10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

Jas 3:11 Does a fountain send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water?

Col 4:5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.

Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

  1. Hold onto the Word – by Joseph Prince, senior pastor of New Creation Church in Singapore,

Joh 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Hold On to the Word!

When the enemy attempts to steal from you (John 10:10), what do you think he heads straight for? What do you think is the most valuable and important thing that he wants to take away from you?

According to Jesus, it is the Word of God (Mark 4:14–15). That’s what the enemy goes for, because he doesn’t want the Word taking root in your heart and producing all kinds of good fruit in your life. He knows that before he can steal your health, joy, peace and provisions, he has to steal the Word from you. Without the truth of God’s Word guiding your life, he can make you believe his lies and rob you blind.

That’s why, beloved, I encourage you to hold on to the Word of His grace that you have heard. Study it, understand it, keep it close to your heart and speak it over your life. Keep being reminded of the gospel of His grace, whether it’s through listening to sermons or reading books that are full of Jesus and His finished work. Don’t say, “I’ve heard it all before.” No, keep hearing it. Let its roots go really deep. Let it build you up, assure you of God’s faithfulness and cause you to walk in the rich inheritance you have in Christ!

SECTION 8(C) – Binding & Loosing

  1. The keys of the kingdom of heaven:

Mat 16:13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"

Mat 16:14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

Mat 16:15 He *said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Mat 16:17 And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Mat 16:18 "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

Mat 16:19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." (NASB)

Mat 16:19 (Amplified Bible) I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.

Jesus gave the assurance that He will hand the authority to act on His behalf on the earth, to every believer individually and collectively. He first had to descend into the lower parts of the earth (hell) and take the keys from Satan. (When Adam sinned he forfeited his authority and handed the keys over to Lucifer).

Jesus obtained the victory over Satan on the cross

Col 2:13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

Col 2:14 having cancelled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Col 2:15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.

Rev 1:18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

A more detailed explanation of Matthew 16:19 and Matthew 18:18-19:

Mat 16:19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." (NASB)

Mat 16:19 (Amplified Bible) I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth must be what is already bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth must be what is already loosed in heaven.

Jesus is also touching on this subject in Matthew 18:18-19

Mat 18:18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.

Mat 18:19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. (NASB)

Amplified Bible

Mat 18:19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [ anything and everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.

Greek grammar explanation of the words:

“Already bound and already loosed” – which were written in the “perfect participle passive”

The perfect tense in Greek describes an action, or more correctly a process, that took place in the past, the results of which have continued to the present. It has no exact equivalent in English

The finished work of Jesus Christ (an action, or more correctly a process) took place in the past and continued to the present and we are living in that completeness today – in what Jesus bound and loosed in the heavens

The perfect participle stresses the state brought about by the finished results of the action

The state brought about by the finished results of Christ’s action is:

  • Righteousness

  • Sanctification

  • Redemption

  • Forgiveness

  • Grace and mercy

  • The love of God being demonstrated in the earth

  • Etc., etc.

We operate on this earth by binding and loosing what has already been bound and loosed by Christ – we bring into reality the finished results of Christ’s action

We now have the keys and have the delegated authority to bind and to loose on earth those things that are already bound and loosed in the heavens by Christ Jesus.

What an amazing authority, but also what a deep responsibility rests upon our shoulders.

  1. What do we bind and loose?

It is our God given assignment and responsibility to bind people to the righteousness, sanctification and redemption of Jesus Christ (in other words – to the finished work of Christ).

Bind people to the love and grace of God!

We were bound to those things by the gracious work of our Lord Jesus Christ

    We have the authority:

  • To loose (preach and proclaim) forgiveness of sin over people,

  • To reconcile them to God and

  • To be released in this earth us sons of God!!

  • To release the power of God in and through prayer

    Scriptures to confirm the aforementioned:

    Forgiveness:

Joh 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

Joh 20:22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

Joh 20:23 "If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained."

Act 13:38 "Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

Act 13:39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.

Reconciliation:

2Co 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

2Co 5:18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,

2Co 5:19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

2Co 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through uswe beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

2Co 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Sons of God:

Rom 8:19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

Rom 8:20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope

Rom 8:21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

Rom 8:24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?

Rom 8:25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

Rom 8:26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

Rom 8:27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Rom 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Releasing God’s power through prayer

Jas 5:16 Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offences, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart].The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working] (AMP) [ The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much (MKJV)]

Jas 5:17 Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months. [I Kings 17:1.]

Jas 5:18 And [then] he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops [as usual]. [I Kings 18:42-45. ]

  1. To effectively bind and lose those things on earth that Christ has bound and loosed in heaven it is imperative that we shall see Christ as He is and remember that “as He is, so also are we in this world”:

1Jn 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

“When He is revealed” means: as He progressively reveals Himself and the fullness of His finished work to us, we shall become like Him, because we will fully understand His completeness

2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

2Co 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

1Jn 4:17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world.

As He is, so also are we in this world:

He is righteous

He has no lack

He is in perfect health, etc., etc

*Reader - How do you see the Lord?

See Him as your Healer and start proclaiming that

See Him as your Provider and start praising Him for that

See Him as the answer and solution to every situation and start worshipping Him for that

  1. Activate personal prophecies!!

Binding and losing the prophetic word which was spoken over your life:

Every prophecy driven by the Holy Spirit is a decision taken in the heavens and we should bind ourselves to the decisions of God and lose His promises over our lives

Jesus bound Himself to the decree (the decision) of His Father by boldly declaring it

Psa 2:7 "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

Psa 2:8 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.

  1. How to deal with Satan and his demons

We do not bind demons and Satan (Lucifer). We cast out demons and resist the devil.

Mat 10:8 "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.

Jas 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

We are no match for Lucifer (Satan) himself – Jesus is the only One who can handle him and sort him out.

Jesus Christ conquered Satan on the cross and destroyed his works, but Satan himself was not destroyed

1Jn 3:8 the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

Revelation 20:1-3 and 7-10 gives a clear picture of how God will deal with Satan

Rev 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

Rev 20:2 And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

Rev 20:3 and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

Rev 20:7 When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison,

Rev 20:8 and will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore.

Rev 20:9 And they came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

Rev 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

In the end, Satan will be bound for a thousand years; released for a short time and thereafter be thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone where he will be tormented forever and ever.

SECTION 8(D) – The Spirit and The Word (Logos & Rhema) working together

a) Give the Holy Spirit a Sword to work with:

Eph 6:17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word (“Rhema”) of God.

The very moment I declare or speak the Rhema – it becomes a sword in the Hands of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to create in you a “rhema” word designed to address your specific situation. This rhema will become a sword in the hands of the Holy Spirit and He will do what is required on your behalf.

b) The Holy Spirit and the Rhema working together to beget Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. The Holy Spirit and the word (rhema) created a body for the Logos so that the Logos can become visible flesh:

Extracts from Luke 1:26-38 where the birth of Jesus is announced by the angel:

Luk 1:26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,

Luk 1:27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

Luk 1:28 And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you."

Luk 1:30 The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favour with God.

Luk 1:31 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.

Luk 1:32 "He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;

Luk 1:33 and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."

Luk 1:34 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?"

Luk 1:35 The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.

Luk 1:37 "For nothing will be impossible with God."

Luk 1:38 And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

The moment Mary yielded to the Rhema word from God, the Holy Spirit came upon her and the power of the Most High (the creative ability of God expressed through the Logos) overshadowed her

Jesus gave this wonderful promise in Acts 1:8

Act 1:8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses (AMP)

Jesus is saying here that the moment the Holy Spirit will come upon us (taking up His superimposition) we will receive God’s power – His ability, efficiency and might – i.e. His creative abilities. The Holy Spirit will again give visibility and reality to the words that we speak!!

c) God is able to do superabundantly above what we ask or think according to the power working in us (the ability to flow in the Logos and the Rhema):

Eph 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

Eph 3:21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (NKJV)

Eph 3:20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose anddo superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—(AMP)

Think

To perceive with the mind, to understand, to have understanding and comprehension

“The power that is works in us” is none other than Jesus Christ!!

1Co 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,

1Co 1:24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

In other words the level of our understanding of Christ and His fullness will determine God’s reaction which will be superabundantly more than what we ask or understand.

Jesus Christ is upholding, sustaining and maintaining all things through and by a constant stream of Rhema word flowing from His power (His Logos ability)

Heb 1:3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word (Rhema) of His power.

d) The Holy Spirit and the Logos are working together in the creation process:

Gen 1:1 IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth. [Heb. 11:3.]

Gen 1:2 The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.

The Holy Spirit as Co-creator with God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the earth, waiting for God to speak (for the Logos and Rhema to come into action). The moment God spoke, the Holy Spirit took the Word coming from God and turned it into whatever God has called forth (in this instance – light)

e) The all creative Word (the Logos) became visible flesh and we behold His glory. You become what you behold and you can visibly realize what you behold:

John says

Joh 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw (beheld) His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

As we speak and live the Word – the Word will again become flesh – it will become visible and tangible things.

As we behold the glory of the Word – the glory will be manifested in practical things in our everyday walk of life.

Paul says

2Co 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

2Co 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

John said: We beheld the glory of the Word (the Logos – Jesus Christ)

Paul said: While we behold the glory of the Lord, we are constantly being changed into that same image of glory as what we behold.

Behold:

To look closely at, that is, to perceive (literally or figuratively); by extension to visit:

By and through the Word we speak and we do practically.

We speak and we strategize.

To summarize the Teaching on “Logos” and “Rhema”

The Bible is the written LOGOS – the written expression of the thoughts of God, because the Bible gives an orderly, intelligent and understandable account of God’s dealings with mankind

Jesus Christ is the Living and Creating LOGOS

The Holy Spirit is the uttered LOGOS resulting in realising and implementing in a practical way everything that Jesus Christ as the Living and Creating LOGOS has done for us.

*Reader - Prayer:

Holy Spirit endue us with knowledge, understanding, insight and wisdom in this great concept – enable us to walk and to live boldly in your Word. Thank you Jesus!
